I have a reason for not being on LJ at all, really. These past few weeks have been hell in terms of school. Nonetheless, with a three-day weekend and a lovely iTunes giftcard from my parents, I've had some time to finish something I started over the summer! Yes, a The Big O fan-mix!
Before I get to that, though, in case anyone would like a short list of allusions for the series (certainly not all of the them in the series, as many of the film-noir ones aren't included), there's one I found online
here. It's interesting to see all of the literary bits the creators included, particularly for Schwarzwald's speeches. c':
Now, as for the fan-mix: there are two, actually. One is the 9-song Big O fan-mix called Before My Darkness Goes, the second is a 3-song bonus mini-mix for the Roger/Dorothy pairing called Different Circumstances. There are three links here: links to download the albums separately, and a link at the end to download both at the same time. Also, yes, I made the covers/backs myself, and while you aren't required to credit me at all when distributing them in anyway, please don't claim them as your own - that's all I ask.
Before My Darkness Goes
a The Big O fan-mix
(front and back cover of the album respectively)
DOWNLOAD SEPARATE HERE (MEGAUPLOAD) For a Big O fan-mix, I wanted to gather together songs that fit the genres
and general air of the series, will still focusing on the setting and the people
of Paradigm as a whole. As such, most of the songs on this list combine
science-fiction and mysterious sounds, utilizing tracks from mostly the 80's
and the 90's to give an old-world, anxious feel. In this way, I hope I did the
series justice.
Track listing:
01. Policy of Truth - Depeche Mode
Now you're standing there tongue tied
You'd better learn your lesson well
Hide what you have to hide
And tell what you have to tell
You'll see your problems multiplied
If you continually decide
To faithfully pursue
The policy of truth
02. Paranoid Android - Radiohead
Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest
From all the unborn chicken voices in my head
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)
03. Analyse - Thom Yorke
There's no spark
No light in the dark
It gets you down
It gets you down
You traveled far
What have you found
That there's no time
There's no time
To analyse
To think things through
To make sense
04. Mr. Roboto - Styx
I'm not a robot without emotions-I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control
I am the modren man, who hides behind a mask
So no one else can see my true identity
05. What I Am - Edie Brickell & New Bohemians
Choke me in the shallow water before I get too deep.
What I am is what I am.
Are you what you are - or what?
I'm not aware of too many things,
but I know what I know if you know what I mean.
06. Another Way to Die - Jack White & Alicia Keys
A door left open
A woman walking by
A drop in the water
A look in the eye
A phone on the table
A man on your side
Someone that you think
That you can trust
Is just
Another way to die
07. Hysteria - Muse
It's holding me, morphing me
And forcing me to strive
To be endlessly cold within
And dreaming I'm alive
'cause I want it now
I want it now
Give me your heart and your soul
And I'm not breaking down
I'm breaking out
Last chance to lose control
08. Opening Credits - Ghostland Observatory
(no lyrics; instrumental)
09. Funny the Way It Is - Dave Matthews Band
Watch the sky
A jet plane so far out of my reach
Is there someone up there looking down on me?
A boy chase a bird
So close but every time
He never catch her but he can’t stop trying
Funny the way it is
If you think about it
One kid walks 10 miles to school
Another’s dropping out
Funny the way it is
Not right or wrong

Different Circumstances
a Dorothy/Roger (from The Big O) mini fan-mix
(front and back cover of the album respectively)
DOWNLOAD SEPARATE HERE (MEGAUPLOAD) Because there were simply a few songs that fit Dorothy and Roger romantically
so well, and because I do admit to shipping them, I had to create some sort of
mini fan-mix to go along with the first Big O fan-mix (plus, I felt bad it took me so
long to gather up all the songs for the first one I needed). Again, I tried to find
tracks not only fitting for the pairing, but for the series as well - and all of the
tracks are from the 70's to the mid or late 90's. There are three here, and if there
ends up being enough interest for a larger Dorothy/Roger fan-mix, I'll try to com-
pile one with a larger song list. (Also, for the record, "I Think I Love You" fits
Roger's feelings on Dorothy like the perfect glove.)
Track listing:
01. I Think I Love You - David Cassidy
I'm sleeping
And right in the middle of a good dream
Like all at once I wake up
From something that keeps knockin' at my brain.
Before I go insane I hold my pillow to my head
And spring up in my bed
Screaming out the words I dread:
"I think I love you!"
02. Take a Chance On Me - ABBA
We can go dancing, we can go walking, as long as we're together
Listen to some music, maybe just talking, get to know you better
'Cos you know I've got
So much that I wanna do, when I dream I'm alone with you
It's magic
You want me to leave it there, afraid of a love affair
But I think you know
That I can't let go
03. Analyse - The Cranberries
For you open my eyes
To the beauty I see
We will pray, we will stay
Wide open
Don't analyse
Don't analyse
Don't go that way
Don't lead that way
That would paralyse your evolution
