Oh, look, I can write. Isn't that clever?

Clovis la Britannia.

Viceroy Clovis la Britannia.

Clovis la Britannia, Viceroy of Area 11.

Clovis la Britannia, Third Prince of the Holy Britannian Empire.

I wonder which title will suit me best here. [pen taps against the page, tap, tap, tapYour Highness, Prince Clovis ( Read more... )

Sorry - was that Prince Clovis? I didn't catch your meaning.

It was Prince Clovis.

How could you miss my meaning?

You didn't repeat it often enough. Which house are you in, Your Highness?

I suppose not.

I am in Hufflepuff.

The house of great loyalty and endurance. How fitting for a noble prince.

Are they treating you properly, Your Highness?

Even if they were not, you would hear no complaints from me.

Naturally.

Greetings from Slytherin house, I suppose. There are none so distinguished over here, where exactly are you from originally? If I might presume to ask.

Greetings and salutations. [Ah, so it is 'Slytherin' not 'Slither in.' That makes it sound less obscene... and he clears his throat.]

I am from the Holy Britannian Empire. I originally was the Viceroy of Area 11. I hope to return there soon, of course.

Viceroy? You're quite the prestigious personality aside from your birth-right, I can already tell. That's wonderful! "Area 11" doesn't give much away, does it? That much official responsibility sounds like it must wear on a person's shoulders, but I'm sure a prince such as yourself never shies from his duties.

[ Although he already knows from Lelouch it's Japan - but Clovis certainly seems considerably looser with information. ]

Was it a territory that the Holy Britannian Empire conquered, owing to your own brilliance?

[Oh, he likes this person.]

I suppose that it does not. I keep forgetting that people are not from my world and that I need to explain such things. My apologies, of course. And you are exactly right on all that you say.

It was a country that the Empire conquered. It was once known as Japan, but now it is Area 11. Fitting, if you were to ask me. Everyone should be so lucky to be part of the Empire, after all, for it offers people a chance to evolve from what they were into something great.

[ He thought he might.

Light isn't a patriot, but he revolts against the idea of anyone taking over his homeland just like any ordinary man. If Britannia obliterated Japan, then his last name can't possibly strike any good chords with the prince and he does want to keep him talking ... ]

People strive to be the best, that much is true. [ Keeping his wording vague, the praise flows. ] Royalty is, of course, exempt from that statement, they've no need to try. That's why they rule and the common man does not.

Did you exert your command over any other Areas, Your Highness? How grand you sound, even over these written letters. Surely you're the Crown Prince?

Indeed, indeed. It is up to the Imperial Family and His Majesty to show people how things must be. All things like war and unnecessary death can be avoided once the entire world is under the control of the Holy Britannian Empire. Everyone will be able to be at their best, then.

[Yes, this is his belief, even though he isn't sure how it will happen beyond that his Empire is great and his father or brother will be able to find a way for it to happen.] No. A Viceroy can only control one Area.

The Crown Prince? Unfortunately, no. I am but the Third Prince. But I am told that the one that is meant to be king is here. Which is all that really matters, isn't it? This war will be over in a flash.

[ Third Prince - other siblings, likely each to an Area of their own. Maybe not for every ruied country though, otherwise - no, how could a family be that big? Anyway - ]

Your position as third-in-line is perfectly poised to lend the teachings of the Empire to the people, a gentle hand to play while remaining above reproach.

What is the name of the king? If I happen to notice him over this device, I would like to inform you immediately.

I always thought so.

Ah, he isn't king, yet. It may even be unfortunate to say as much so soon. [Perhaps, it might even sound like treason, but Clovis really does believe that his father will chose Schneizel to lead. Really, he just does't feel comfortable with things if His Majesty were to choose Odysessus, as much as he loves his older brother...] My excitement in praising my older brother, I suppose. But this is a natural human trait and even a prince can have those lapses, yes?
