Oh, look, I can write. Isn't that clever?

Clovis la Britannia.

Viceroy Clovis la Britannia.

Clovis la Britannia, Viceroy of Area 11.

Clovis la Britannia, Third Prince of the Holy Britannian Empire.

I wonder which title will suit me best here. [pen taps against the page, tap, tap, tapYour Highness, Prince Clovis ( Read more... )

[well, Layton definitely knows Clovis' name now.]

Which title do you want us to address you by? You left quite a number of them.

Your Highness, Prince Clovis, will suffice.

[hm.] I see. Thank you for the clarification.

I suppose I shall introduce myself, as well. [A tip of the tophat and a smile.] Professor Hershel Layton; Professor Layton will do. Pleasure to meet you, Prince Clovis.

Forgive me for asking so suddenly, but you mentioned a Holy Britannian Empire. Would that at all be related to the Roman Empire or its settlement Britannia in Europe?

Pleasure is mine, professor. [And smiles in a polite manner. Yes, he can keep his public face since he cannot be seen being upset about something as negligible as being kidnapped.]

Not the Roman Empire, but we did create quite a few settlements in Europe. [Ah, history. Never really his strong suit. Though, he does love historic artwork.] Of course, it did not stop there. We now control about one-third of the world.

[when the video feed comes on, Layton's brow furrows quizzically. The Prince looks an awfully like someone he just met back in his own world.] My, the resemblance is a little uncanny. [But he recovers soon enough.]

So, a separate entity. How fascinating, the way that our histories diverge.

That certainly sounds like the definition of an Empire.

Our histories are different?

[Clovis blinks once.]

Did you say something?

Ah, excuse me. I did forget you must be a new arrival, like we all were. As unbelievable as it sounds, you'll meet people who come from a world parallel to your own. I think it will be something you will have to experience as you talk to others rather than have me explain, as I don't comprehend it fully myself.

It wasn't anything very important. I just noted that you had a passing resemblance to an acquaintance I knew.

That does make things a little difficult for me. [He keeps his sighing to a minimum.] Isn't that asking a bit much of us to handle all of this sort of information? I'm sure that someone with less poise and grace would be feeling relatively overwhelmed by now.

A good acquaintance I would hope.

It is difficult for us all, I'm afraid. But a true gentleman makes the best of his circumstances and I'm sure most will try to do the same.

I'm glad you have it relatively handled, then.

[does swordfighting count as good?] Yes, he was an interesting acquaintance.

Indeed. That is what a prince needs to do, as well.

[Clears his throat, plays with his cravat a bit.] Yes, I am, too. [Inner sobbing.]

Well, I'm glad to be just as interesting.

As a prince, you must have many responsibilities. It must be quite a lot of work.

Oh, yes, very interesting. [Said with as little dryness as possible.] For curiosities' sake, do you mind if I ask what House you have been placed into? I haven't had the chance to ask many about that.

Indeed, I did. It was quite a bit, yes.

[He nods a few times. It is nice that someone understands.]

I was placed into Hufflepuff.

It might be a little strange of me to say, but I guess you can consider this excursion as holiday from most of those demanding responsibilities.

Ah, I see. Thank you for indulging me in that. I've found the distinctions in Houses to be an interesting quirk of Hogwarts. I'm in Ravenclaw myself.

I suppose that is a good way to view things. One should always look on the bright side rather than anything else, because anything else is quite troublesome, isn't it?

You are welcome. A Ravenclaw, I see.

[Layton isn't so sure about that last part, but he does agree with having an optimistic view.] Exactly. A true gentleman should always keep his spirits high when he can.

[He nods.] Ah, that does remind me. Excuse me for going a bit off topic, but would you happen to have family here in Hogwarts? I noticed that there have been some other mentioning of Britannia in the posts on the communicator.

Indeed. It'd be unfortunate to have anyone see you less than your best.

[His eyes widen a little. His family. Pressing his lips together, he smiles in a polite manner as he tries to hide his discomfort about it.] Yes, I do.
