It would seem this world holds stark ideals of black and white, but I am quite certain that shades of grey would be a much better view.

That's what I think as well. This world's stark views did have me worried, though.

Mm, I am willing to bet that before these bast wars and so called darklords the stigma wasn't as pronounced. I'm also certain some people don't realize that perfectly 'light' spells can be used as efficiently as 'dark' ones when it comes to creative people.

Probably. War has tendency to bring out the worst in people and the cause for my own concern, admittedly. This is the first exposure to some people and it's in a war where they're told to go against the Dark Witches and Wizards.

Of course, any weapon can be abused if you're smart enough.

Well, propaganda does have it's uses. The heavy bias doesn't help for those who look into the dark arts as well. I must admit that the severe approach towards dark magic probably provides more of an allure to those who are looking for a way to rebel.

No, it really doesn't. That's why I thought I'd ask, since I am, by their definition, a 'Dark Witch.'

And rebellion is always a problem, in peaceful times and war torn ones.

By definition, back home are you considered a 'dark witch' however? Culturally it would seem that your people's magic bearers do not have such a stigma?

Rebellion has always been a problem, magic just seems to make it more interesting.

I am a practitioner of black magic. What I would be labelled specifically is the heir of the Scarlet Arts, which is the black magic unique to my bloodline. However, witches are a rare sort these days and the magical creatures hardly care to label magic, except for possibly the more divinely touched ones. But that's getting into politics between gods and demons.

Certainly more explosive.

Hmmm, interesting. Are there, or were there, several more branches of magic specific to bloodline then?

There were. Arts where a family would be particularly good at a type of magic, what sort of creatures they could control or summon. My own family has always been one of the strongest throughout history, able to even summon the King of Hell himself.

Which is probably why your family is one of the ones to have survived?

That is one of the reasons, yes.

[Her family's specialty was also manipulating emotions. A lot easier to guarantee heirs and avoid witch burnings that way.]

Well, I suppose there's always going to be more than one reason to anything

Especially for something like survival.

That's when most reasons come into play.

[Laughs.] Yes, that is a fair point.
