Professor Schuster starts a Glee club at Hogwarts; friendships are made, as are rivalries and music is now at Hogwarts.
Professor McGonagall had made her speech and all the regular announcements. The Hogwarts students were keen to begin the feast.
"Professor Schuester has an announcement to make," the Headmistress said as several hungry students groaned. Will Schuster stood up and addressed his students.
"Hey guys." Schue said slightly awkwardly. "What this school needs is a choir and not any old choir. This year I'm setting up a Glee club, a show choir. So, if you can sing or dance and want to audition can put your name on the sign up sheet in the Entrance Hall."
"You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this school to give us an opportunity to be involved in the performing arts!" exclaimed Kurt Hummel at the Gryffindor table. "We should both sign up!"
"I don't know, Kurt. My voice isn't great and I have homework and quidditch and stuff," Finn said.
"I've heard you singing along to the Weird Sisters and even with quidditch last year you still somehow had time to try out every single Weasley product and serve all the detentions you got."
"You think I sound good?"
"Yeah," Kurt smiled. "Hey, Blaine, what do you think? Wanna try out for this choir?"
"It sounds cool, maybe," Blaine replied.
"Looks like my letters to the board of governors demanding Hogwarts students have the opportunity to partake in non-magical pursuits such as musical performance have finally paid off." Rachel Berry said to her Slytherin classmates.
"Well, it sounds kinda lame to me," Lauren Zizes replied.
"Singing is the sort of thing muggles do because they have nothing better to do with their lives without magic." said Santana Lopez.
"My dads have always made sure that I participate in non-magical as well as magical activities and therefore I am not reliant on magic for my happiness or well-being," Rachel said. "Anyway, Santana, I saw you at that party after we won the quidditch cup last year and believe you would be an asset to this glee club."
"What has me making out with the entire team, got to do with anything?"
"No, I was talking about the part where you sang amazingly with an almost flawless dance routine."
"What was that about singing being for muggles?" Puck smirked.
"What are you playing at?" asked Severus Snape, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and Deputy Headmaster after the feast.
"Excuse me?" said Will. He was confused about what he could have done to upset the aloof professor.
"Singing has no place at Hogwarts. Students don't need to be distracted from their studies and singing and dancing will have no use to them as grown up wizards."
"I know how it used to be, there were evil wizards to vanquish and wacky adventures to be had so students always had something to do but now they have nothing to do. If they had something to do maybe Finn Hudson and Noah Puckerman would stop their prank war and Kurt Hummel would stop bothering you about a makeover. Though, you kinda need one."
"Fine, but don't expect your Glee club to last long." Snape sneered.
On Monday, Will spent the entire evening searching for somewhere to hold auditions. The only place that was really suitable for musical performance was the Great Hall but he needed somewhere a little more private. He found a door on the seventh floor that he had, strangely, never really noticed before. He opened it and found an auditorium. Will estimated that there were around a hundred seats as well a large stage.
Luckily, Will already had an electric-to-magic converter (since their invention three years previously he was able to actually show his students functioning muggle appliances) and bought a stereo and some CDs with backing music for various genres during the summer. He knew it wouldn't be enough and wished they had some musical instruments.
"And then, a guitar, a drum kit and a grand piano appeared out of nowhere! I thought that nothing could surprise me, being a wizard who teaches at a wizard school!" Will told Neville.
"That's the Room of Requirement, heard of it? It was a lifesaver that year, er... when the Death Eaters were here," the Herbology teacher said.
"Oh yeah, I heard about that. I didn't think the room could do that much." Will was happy because despite what Snape thought, the glee club was coming together: he's found an auditorium, he had instruments and ten people had signed up already.
