Messianica Psalms

Dec 26, 2008 20:46

I wanted to write this in my paper journal so I could focus and not be distracted by the computer, but I couldn't find the paper journal. So I'm going to blog it here.

Yesterday, for Christmas, I didn't go on the internet at all, save for two minutes with my cousin, but I didn't actually read anything. This was good for me.

Excerpts from the Messianic Psalms:

Psalm 2:
The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill." I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, You are my son, today I have become your father. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.

Psalm 8:
From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings, and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

Psalm 16: I said the LORD, you are my Lord, apart from you I have no good thing. Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.

Psalm 22: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: He tryst in the Lord; let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him. Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother’s breast. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. MY heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay in the dust of death. Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones, people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among then and cast lots for my clothing. I will declare your name to my brothers, in the congregation I will praise you.

Psalm 23: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.

Psalm 24: Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who dos not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God his Savior. Lift up your heads O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

Psalm 40: Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, Here I am, I have come- it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, O my God, your law is within my heart.

Psalm 41: Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

Psalm 45: You are the most excellent men and your lips have been anointed with grace.

Psalm 68: Sing to God, sing praise to his name, extol him who rides on the clouds- his name is the LORD, and rejoice before him. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the sovereign LORD comes escape from death. You are awesome, O God, in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!

Psalm 69: Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. Fir I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother’s sons, for zeal for your house consumes me and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs.

Psalm 72: He will judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice. For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in this sight. Praise be the LORD God, the God is Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. Praise be to his glorious name forever, may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen.

Psalm 89: You said, I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sown to David my servant, I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations. I will also appoint him my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail. I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness- and I will not lie to David- that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; it will be established forever like the moon the faithful witness in the sky. Remember Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations, the taunts with which your enemies have mocked, O LORD, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.

Psalm 102: Let this be written for a future generation, that people not yet created may praise the LORD: the LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death. So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem then the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the Lord.

Psalm 110: The LORD says to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Psalm 118: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his love endures forever. The LORD is with me, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death. The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.
