Pride is the Killer

For my spanish class, we have to do these quick reflections from readings the professor has picked out in the syllabus. I have the same prof for three classes, and the readings are all the same; I only have to do one.

The reading for this week was Ezekiel 18:25-28 and Matthew 21:28-32. The Matthew reading is the parable of the two sons and the vineyard. The professor talked about his reflection, and he modernized it. He talked about how one person says Yes I will do it but then hangs out with friends, eats supper, goes to the movies, gets sidetracked, and doesn't get anything done. The other person says no I won't do it, but goes to the library for 20 hours and gets everything done.

It hit me. Not like a ton of bricks, maybe, more like one well aimed brick at the face.

I am the first son. The one that says yes but then doesn't do it.

I need to change.

What keeps me from that change? Pride. Simple, stubborn pride. The pride that can't admit that I need help. The pride that can't admit that I don't really have it all together.

I need to change.
