i almost didn't put on pants

We only recently started locking our front door, and I have not quite figured out how the lock works. There's a deadbolt that appears when you turn the key twice? I'm seriously unclear.

Anyways this afternoon our buzzer rang. The buzzer doesn't work. I mean, it buzzes, but I can't "buzz you up." I can, however, bound down 2 flights of stairs and open the door for you and then walk you up to my place like a gentleman.

So the buzzer buzzes, and I'm sitting on our couch in my underwear. I grab a pair of shorts to cover up my hotpant panties and the spare key we keep by our door, and run down the stairs to find out someone had buzzed the wrong apartment. I climb back up and go to the open the door, which I had not locked. But wait, somehow it is locked?

Of course, the front door, like the main door on the first floor, locks automatically when you close it. And that spare key I grabbed was for the ground floor door, not my apartment door. I shove it in anyways, praying it's a skeleton key. It's not. I knock a couple times, ring our bell, but no one's home. I slam against the door out of frustration and then slump against it in defeat. I'm without shoes, a wallet, or a cell phone. Hell, I'm not even sure my short shorts count as pants.

I'm at a bit of a loss. The new roommate told me she was painting her room tomorrow, so I think to myself, worst case scenario I sleep on the doormat and she lets me in tomorrow when she comes to paint. Thank God I just ate a super late, super huge lunch in case I don't eat until tomorrow. I have no idea how to pass the time until then. I figure I'm a smart girl, I can just um, entertain myself with my thoughts until someone shows up to let me in. A half hour later, I'm curled up on the doormat sleeping. It turns out my thoughts are kind of boring.

So that's where my roommate Linda found me a couple hours later when she-surprise!-opens the door to leave for dinner. Turns out she was in her room with her music on and didn't hear my knocking. Anyways I'm moving September 1 so at least this is unlikely to happen again.
