Sexuality and Harry Potter

Oct 21, 2007 15:36

I should've watched the news last night, but I only caught this bit of information this morning.

Albus Dumbledore was gay.

Oh dear. I can almost see it, really. It just throws things out of whack for me. It's not the kind of thing one thinks about, then suddenly...wow. I don't disapprove per say. I still respect Dumbledore, it just introduces something awfully real into the Harry Potter universe that wasn't there before. To introduce something so terribly complicated as sexuality into the story makes things to different. He was in love with Grindelwald, too, which I actually think is clever. It deepens the conflict, made it harder for Dumbledore to do what he did. I wonder, though, does this mean Grindelwald reciprocated? I'd rather not think about it, as it brings up some questions I'd rather not have answered. I also wonder if this will affect Sir Michael Gabon's portrayal of Dumbledore in the new movie.

I need to work through this.

life altering experience, harry potter
