More Sequels

So, I've just finished reading The Summoner by Gail Z. Martin. It was pretty good, though perhaps the version I read was not very well-edited. It was missing end or beginning quotation marks and sometimes the intalics continued where they had no right to. And sure, I've read other books with similiar mistakes, but one that really irritated me was at one point, they said the main character's eyes were blue, when in the beginning, they'd very clearly stated they were green. I was rathe rupset over this, as I love green eyes and far prefer them over blue.

Plus, once I started the sequel they once again reverted back to green. It was just mildly irritating, but it still pisses me off that the editors or whoever just lets these sort of mistakes go. I mean, this isn't a stupid fanfiction with a crappy beta reader, this is a seriously published novel that people are paying for, you could at least fix the errors before printing them.

The sequel doesn't appear as thrilling. Perhaps it's because I'm only about five pages in and they're still recapping a bunch of stuff. Perhaps it's because my interest and love for the characters waned after having several hours to think about them. Perhaps it's because I just spent five hours at my father's co-worker's house engaging in small talk.

Anyway, I still don't like Vahanian, though the author seems damnably insistient on making him some grand, important character. And I was rather upset over the lack of grief over certain supposed deaths in book one (and I'm not talking about the royal family). I'd also have liked more time with the royal family, too. I wanted to see Tris's interactions with his father and mother. It'd have been nice to see them talk at least once. Perhaps I'm a bit spoiled from The Innocent Mage by Karen Miller, which spent a lovely amount of time exploring the dynamics of the royal family's relationships and whatnot. But it would have been nice to see some sort of personality before getting slaughtered so there could have been at least a little saddness for the reader...
