“So…” Train flipped through the large hardcover, staring incredulously at its thin pages’ tiny print. “You…read this whole book?”
“Yes, in two days,” Eve replied, flipping through yet another college-level book. Train stared at her.
“And…you understood it?” he asked weakly.
“Yes, every word,” she replied, turning another page.
“…Where did you learn this kind of stuff?” Train asked, still in shock. “Avuncular? What does that even mean!?”
“Of or pertaining to one’s uncle,” Eve answered, as if it were common knowledge. “Or resembling an uncle. And I learned mostly from Sven, though the rest is self-taught.”
“…You self-taught this?” Train managed, mumbling words to himself as he flipped through the book.
“It’s not difficult material,” Eve responded. Train sighed.
“You’re a smart kid, jeez…”
