Boy Who Lived Dies in Diagon Blast

Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, was killed yesterday in the explosion and subsequent fire which levelled a Diagon Alley building. A hospital source reports that he has been positively identified as one of the victims of the blast, and was listed dead on arrival to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.

The explosion occurred at approximately 4:20pm Sunday afternoon, destroying the McKirke Building which has been known to the Ministry for housing suspicious individuals, severely damaging the two buildings adjacent and shattering windows throughout the area. Several eye witness accounts place Mr. Potter entering the building at approximately 4pm, and looking annoyed. The building collapsed not long after, with no warning and with a stunning percussive noise heard the length and breadth of Diagon Alley and noticed even in Muggle London. The fire brigade was mobilized and it took almost ten minutes to control the blaze sufficiently to send in rescue crews. Continued page 7

Both Diagon and Knocturne Alleys were evacuated following the explosion and all movement into the area was restricted to emergency and MLE personnel until 10pm. Afterwards, residents were only allowed back in to collect necessary personal effects. However, both districts were reopened to residents and business activity this morning at 6am although a fifty metre area around the blast site has been cordoned off and access is still restricted in those buildings.

It is unknown why Mr. Potter was present in such a disreputable area at the time of the explosion. Mr. Potter had been teaching Muggle Studies at Hogwarts for the last three years, after a successful run as a scout for Puddlemere United. Both Hogwarts and Mr. Potter's family have declined comment. A Puddlemere United spokesman tells us that they are “all very shocked and saddened by this terrible event. Our hearts go out to his family, and to everyone who knew him. He was one of the best.” Continued page 6

This morning, smoke continues to rise over Diagon Alley as MLE forensic wizards comb the site for clues. A confidential source reports that Death Eater activity is suspected but unconfirmed and no one has come forward at this time to claim the attack. There has also been speculation that this is an escalation of the bomb threats and mysterious warehouse fires earlier in the year. The Daily Prophet has exclusive information of a possible conspiracy to bring down the Ministry, although the Ministry currently denies any proof of such a plot. Continued page 3

St. Mungo's has confirmed a total of five fatalities and sixteen injured, three critical. The identified victims are Harry Potter (26), Barney Quivver (63), Welwitschia Plimpton (32). The two additional fatalities are only being described as male and between the ages of 25 and 50. One has not yet been identified and they are waiting on reaching family before releasing the name of the other. Of the injured, all but seven have been released.
