Affiliation: Trainer

Personality: In many ways, Miles Edgeworth has not changed much since he was a child. Even at the age of 9, Edgeworth was very serious and mature. He became easily frustrated when he couldn't do something-to the point of tears in at least one incident, even. And, perhaps most importantly, he had a set of principles he was highly devoted to. His father was a defense attorney and young Edgeworth thought the world of him and believed strongly in what he stood for; allegedly, he spoke often of "protecting the weak" and "man's debt to society" at this age.

And then Gregory Edgeworth was murdered and the sole suspect received an innocent verdict. This, combined with how crazy perfectionist prosecutor Manfred von Karma subsequently took him under his wing, drastically changed young Miles's principles and didn't do much good for the rest of his personality aspects, either. His seriousness and maturity were amplified to the point where what few social graces he may have possessed as a child were all but stamped out, and while he continued to be strongly devoted to his principles, the principles themselves changed. Edgeworth was no longer concerned with protecting the weak, but instead strove ruthlessly to convict all criminals that found their way to his courtroom.

This is how he is at the start of the first game. Nicknamed the "Demon Prosecutor", Edgeworth had never lost a case before standing opposite Phoenix Wright, and it's pretty easy to see why. Edgeworth is confident and in control in court. He comes across as suave, superior, and all-around kind of a huge jerk. Until things stop going his way, at least. Then he becomes rather visibly upset and frustrated. Outside of a professional context, he's practically an entirely different person. He doesn't really have any idea how to interact with people on a personal level, and conversations along those lines tend to come out awkwardly and overly formal. When they're not filled with Edgeworth glaring, that is, which happens frequently. Edgeworth really dislikes talking about himself, and getting personal information out of him can be like pulling teeth. Similarly, he really dislikes receiving awards of any kind, since he's confident enough in his own abilities and doesn't particularly care for anybody else's opinion on the matter. Overall, he comes across as very standoffish.

Following the end of the first game, Edgeworth is in a transition period. A lot of the things he had taken to be true were proven to be false. At this point, he's pretty lost and confused, with the principles he'd so strongly believed in once again knocked out from under him. He's pretty easily influenced into doing things he'd usually wouldn't in this state, and it's not long before he leaves a fake suicide note and goes off on a journey to figure out who he is and what he's doing. A year later, he's succeeded and returns, but that's after my chosen canon point, so I won't elaborate unless you feel it's necessary.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Edgeworth is in possession of some powerful mental faculties. His logic skills are particularly notable, and he knows several foreign languages. He has very refined tastes (the Steel Samurai is very refined, you know). He's very dedicated to the truth (whether or not he's consciously aware of it at the moment), and very persistent in trying to track it down.

He is, as previously stated, very bad at socializing normally and expressing himself outside of a professional context. He's very hard on himself and others, and does not tolerate failure easily. He suffers from severe seismophobia and a few other minor fears, heights and such. Allergies, too. He is also pretty bad at lying.

Samples

First Person Sample:

Against my better judgement, I have decided to investigate these gym battles that everyone seems to insist are so important. Hmph. As though a few badges could determine one's worth as a trainer. The gym in Violet City is traditionally the first one challenged, correct? That's the one I paid a visit to first, in any case.

[Edgeworth pauses for a moment.]

It was very... gratuitous. I'm unsure whether the challenge of the gym is to defeat its leader, or to simply survive reaching him. Doing battle in what would barely pass as rafters in most worlds cannot possibly be safe. Are all gyms deathtraps, or is Violet's unique in this respect?

Third Person Sample:

Edgeworth paused. His hand had brushed against something unexpectedly as he placed his PokeGear back in his pocket. He wasn't really sure why he took the offending object out-he'd known exactly what it was the moment he'd made contact with it, and yet he found himself pulling it out, anyway.

It was his Prosecutor's Badge.

He had come to know it well in the four years that he carried it and the office it represented, and yet he found himself looking over it as though he'd never seen it before. To think that he'd once been so proud of it, and now he wasn't even sure if he wanted it or not.

He wasn't really sure of anything these days, really. Just about the only thing he could say for certain was that the Miles Edgeworth of last year was long gone, but he knew infuriatingly little about the Miles Edgeworth who had replaced him. Would he be a prosecutor, or would he choose a different path? The truth of the matter continued to elude him.

He was brought out of his reverie by something nudging against his leg. Oddish, it seemed, was getting quite tired of waiting for him to return to the world around him on his own. Edgeworth slipped the badge back into his pocket as he kneeled and ruffled the small Pokemon's leaves slightly. It had a point, in its own way-she and her, he reminded himself; Oddish was a female-there was little use in pondering his position as a prosecutor when he was no such thing here and nothing of the sort was expected or even wanted of him here. This world already had a position prepared for him: that of a Pokemon trainer.

"You should be more patient than that," he scolded. "But we do need to keep going if we're going to reach next town by nightfall. Come along."

[OOC]
This is the permissions list for OOC (out of character), activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired.

Backtagging: Fine by me, but you'll probably have to poke me a few times about it. My attention span is not too keen these days.
Threadhopping: Fine by me.
Fourthwalling: Just don't tell him he's fictional.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): This. Seems kind of case-by-case-y. Talk to me about it, I guess?

[IC]
This is the permissions list for IC (in-character), activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired. With IC permissions, it's a good idea to elaborate on what other players can expect from your character if they choose to do any of the following:

Hugging this character: It would be incredibly awkward.
Kissing this character: Edgeworth would react pretty poorly.
Flirting with this character: A brick wall would likely be more receptive to flirting than Edgeworth.
Fighting with this character: He probably does deserve a punch in the face but I would appreciate some warning?
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Talk to me about it first, please?
Killing this character: Not even applicable to this game!
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Neither is this!

Warnings: Caaaaan't think of anything?
