For some reason, I thought I had left a comment here. Again, this piece intrigues me. Mello and Near competing for L's love. Yes, yes... to some extent Mello's reaction over L's death makes it seem that way.

Oh yes, that scene can definitely be read that way. So much is only hinted at in the canon, I really can't wait to explore it in fic. :)
