Thanks for all the help everyone, but I've officially torn out a dreadlock. I replied to her last owl the way everybody advised me to (bloody good advice I might add, thanks again you lot), and here's an excerpt from what I got back last night:
"Oh yes I'm going to the ball, I think I might have a date already but I'm not sure how he feels about the whole thing..."

I'm almost desperate enough to ask Pansaround and find someone whose date seems to have vanished. Almost. I'll give Padma one more go-round, because it would be really rotten of me to go with someone else if she really is talking about me.
If anyone is close to Padma and could find out who in blazes she's talking about and clue me in that would be bloody brilliant.
