You said yourself before
Where are you?
I'm needing you much more
I bet you never knew
And now everything
Is gonna fall apart
I need you here
Not just in my heart
====================
The slow, sensuous techno beat pouring out of the speakers of the club wasn’t like the usual dance music that filled the air. Around them, the dance floor was packed with a sea of warm, faceless bodies writhing to the pulsing rhythm.
She was warm and yielding in his arms, the lean planes of muscle and skin perfectly molded to his body as they moved with the music. There was something unusual about the way he came alive for her, something alien and other about the warm rush, the excitement of holding her…of wanting her.
“Come home with me.”
“I can’t.”
“You can if you tell me where you are.”
Her hands slid up to cradle his face, her own features filling with confusion. “I…don’t know.”
His eyes fell shut against his will as he leaned into her touch, turning his head to kiss her fingers. “I don’t understand, if you can’t tell me then…how are we here?”
Opening his eyes again, he caught sight of figures out of the corners of his eyes…bodies moving, dancing…faceless figures he was sure he knew but couldn’t identify. All of them…every last one…
Shadows fell across the crowd. Looking around in confusion, he pulled her a little bit closer even as he filled with a sense of dread, a knowledge that was deeper than the mind, bleeding through every cell of his being.
He couldn’t protect her.
“Tommy.”
His name was a breath against his neck. Looking down at her, he realized they were alone.
“Where did everyone go? What’s happening?”
She looked ashamed, apologetic as she leaned into him, nose pressed to the pulse in his neck. “I have to close up for a while…I needed you to know.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re the only one that knew the place was still open.”
Panic seized him as he held her still tighter. “Don’t…oh God, don’t leave me…”
Her lips brushed his skin, hands guiding his head down to hers. The kiss was a forgotten joy, electric and ravenous…they were starving, gripped by a hunger that would never be satisfied.
“I’ll be home soon, I promise. Soon as I get things cleaned up.”
“I just found you.” He breathed against her lips, hands moving over her sides, pulling her closer. She was so real in that moment, he could smell her skin and taste her lips, feel her breath in his lungs this close…
“Tommy…please. The sooner I get this done…”
He hated her then for making him leave, hated her for making him lose now when he didn’t need to. He hated her so much he felt himself fall just a little bit further in love…
His fingers wound painfully tight in her hair as he kissed her one more time, taking all he could. He wrapped himself in her…the taste of her mouth, the sting of her nails as she clung to his shoulders, the crush of her breasts against his chest and the press of her hips, the delicious and perfectly Ziyah little growl that rolled up from her throat…
Breaking the kiss, he pressed his lips to her ear, whispering desperately as the room got dark around them.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too, Tommy.”
He repeated it over and over again, holding on tight as the world melted around him.

Tommy woke when someone slapped him.
Flinching, he sat up sharply, bringing a hand to his cheek and coming away with blood. It took him a full minute to really see Hardy sitting on his thigh, white paw stained red as he yowled angrily.
Then he heard the baby crying through the monitor at his bedside…he’d been sleeping so deeply he hadn’t heard May.
Rising from bed, he made it to her room and gathered her into his arms…and only then, as he held her, did he need to find the rocker in the nursery and sink into it, clinging to his daughter as he felt something inside of himself open up and turn icy cold.
He could feel the energy, the thread of life that connected him to Zee, somewhere in the world…but in his heart of hearts, Tommy knew that something in that thread had come undone.
