[wm] 110.1.D - You can never know. The knowledge is sacred. Let it be.

NOTE: First section is a memory taking place some time after Zee's "death." Cinzia is an NPC used with loving permission from her writer. ;p

“You can never know. That knowledge is sacred. Let it be.”

“Why? Just because you say so?!” Cinzia snapped.

“Because it’s forbidden.”

“Fuck you, I’ve done my reading. When the hell have you ever cared about the rules?”

“Cinz…”

“NO! Fuck you. I want revenge, and you’re telling me I can’t get it. My girl, my Ziyah…*our* Ziyah is dead, and I want to find the man who did this to her. I want you to teach me what you do, you said it could be learned. If you don’t, Tommy…if you don’t, I swear to God Almighty, I will hate you until the end of time.”

“For not making you a god?!” he snapped, whirling around to face her.

“No, you asshole!! For letting this BE!!! For sitting on your ass and doing NOTHING!!!”

Complete control abandoned him as he advanced on Cinzia and grabbed her arm, eyes glowing like brimstone as he snarled at her.

“You pathetic, ungrateful fool of a human CHILD!! If your blood was the elixir that would return her to me, I would kill you and collect every drop as slowly and painstakingly as was needed of me. Look into my eyes, you’ll see it…LOOK AT ME!!”

He shook her then, though he didn’t really want to. Her short little scream pleased him, as did the abject horror in her eyes when she obeyed.

“Listen to me, and listen good, because I will never tell you this again.” Tommy bit off coldly, the ice in his voice burning as hot as the fire in his eyes. “Yes, humans can learn real magic, but my kind have one rule…ONE RULE that we are bound by. Not even secrecy is demanded of us, only this: we do not share the keys to power with anyone. Humans who learn our craft die. That is the law. That will always be the law…and if you try to do and end-run around me? I will end your life with my own hands. Are we clear?”

By the time he was done, his voice was unrecognizable, the guttural snarl of an animal that had the usually strong and self-possessed young woman shaking like a leaf in his grip as she nodded.

* * * * *

“…Tommy? Tommy!”

Blinking, Tommy shook himself and looked up from the bottle of juice he was filling for May. “Yeah, yeah…sorry, spaced out. I’m listening.”

“So? You wanna tell me why my cousin doesn’t want to see you when she visits this weekend?”

“We…had a falling out. When we thought you were…dead.” He admitted. Even after all this time, he still had trouble getting the word out.

“This is the first I’ve heard of it.”

Tommy screwed the top onto May’s bottle, leaning down to hand it to the eager little hands reaching for it by his leg. “We don’t like to talk about it…I’m in the wrong, okay? I said…and did…some messed up things, and she’s probably never gonna forgive me. And she’s right not to.”

He didn’t look at Ziyah for a moment as he ushered Mayilia out of the room, sending her to toddle back to the pile of toys sitting beside Prometheus so the dog could act as babysitter once again.

“Tommy…I think she’s afraid of you.”

Watching May as she plopped down beside the big German Shepherd, he bit back a heavy sigh as the memory threatened him again, weighing heavily on his conscience and his heart with the knowledge that he had no regrets for letting her see the monster he could become.

“She is.” He replied softly. “And she’s right, babe…she’s absolutely right to be afraid.”
