Folding Hannah's Daily Prophet neatly, Ernie returned it to her... since she was still hanging about. He wondered what Harry Potter would have to say about the missing twin girls.
Ernie straightened his clothes and book bag and started out toward Hogsmeade. Hannah following along like his shadow.
Justin Finch-Fletchley's smile nearly blinded him. Ernie pretended not to notice. But that
adorable blush on his fair skin... it made Ernie's heart skip a beat, even as he tried not to skip a step. But then he overheard Justin
inviting Theo to go with him today.
A Slytherin? Yesterday it was Gryffindors,
today it's Slytherins? What the hell was wrong with his own house? What did Justin have against hanging out with Hufflepuffs?
Maybe they are boring and whiny and critical and study all the time?
Avoiding a
scene like yesterday, Ernie calmly walked out past the milling groups of students waiting for each other. He wasn't in the mood to hang out with anyone. More and more, there was only one person he wanted to hang out with ... who didn't know he existed.
There was a church in Hogsmeade. It was warm and soothing. The music was nice. Hannah hated it and split off to go 'round with the girls. But most of all ... it was free to be there. Later, Ernie scoped out the street entertainers who flocked to Hogsmeade on a student weekend. He had a few sickles, enough for a butter beer and a sandwich, but, like always, he waited till after the lunchtime rush, so that he could have a whole table to himself... and his books, for the afternoon. The Charms essay began to flow, and Ernie's quill scritched furiously across his parchment.
