the promised note

Nov 25, 2011 17:36

and it's a couple weeks later than expected, but deadlines and life and work and whatnot...

now that the vast majority of secret things are no longer secret i can FINALLY talk a wee about...yes, it's

music. of course it's music. duh.

here's the thing. for a lot of people, music is something in the background that you occasionally notice.

for me, music is and has always been my salvation, my breath, my closest friend, my grounding, my escape,

and my dearest love. understand that i feel music physically because it sparks a depth of emotion and

acceptance far greater than anything else in life ever has. the recent past has delivered to me such music

as i never dared dreamed even existed, and i have been waiting for the respective release dates to pass so

that i could speak freely about what and why.

the thing that i have learned about a lot of music is timing. i don't just mean in the dj beatmatching

sense...this is the bit a lot of people never get...an album by a band you really like can come out and be

all about stuff that has nothing to do with your life, so you don't really attach to it. then later you put

it on again and suddenly it is the most amazing thing you have ever heard and you love it. a few times in

my life i have experienced an odd synchronicity with the music coming out, and 2011 has decided it's going

to be one of those years.

i mentioned a few weeks ago that there was some seriously soul-devouring stuff coming out, and people asked

wtf i was talking about. so now, i will talk about it :) please understand that this will be in no

particular order because i am really very tired :P also understand that 2010 was a year full of devastating

loss, and 2011 has been a year full of hard fought-for healing.

Diary of Dreams - Ego X

i got this one right before a planned cathartic event. I got it for review from COMA and the review nearly

broke me into pieces. this album spoke to me on a deeply personal level but spoke to parts of me i was in

the process of making huge changes in. i LOVE this album for how much it helped and spoke to me, but still

regret how stilted the review became because i was unable to separate the personal from it in a way that

would not color a reader's own view.

iVardensphere - APOK

this was a highly anticipated album for me that did NOT dissappoint. Music made by music junkies for music

junkies. An actual literal combination of virtually every style of music that moves me, and made for its

own sake, not just the dance floor.

Scroobius Pip - Distraction Pieces

A solo project from one half of a duo I was turned onto last year for its ridiculous fun aspect, that

turned out to be full of incredible depth and wisdom.

Haujobb - New World March

it's almost as if they heard my silent prayers from across the world, and like all of the side projects

combined into one epic suckerpunch.

Alter Der Ruine - Sons of Bitches

it's everything i loved about ADR already, but cranked up and (in my hEad) blended with Profolyx. then fed

copious amounts of coffee.

this list is by no means difnitive, and i am probably forgetting at least 5 things i meant to mention

because SO MUCH has come out in the last month or 2. but i promised i would share, and so i have. because i

love you guys :)
