So, the verdict came back a few days ago; my beloved tC was totalled. Emptying her out ranked up there as one of the worst experiences of my life. I miss that car so much.
That said... car shopping commenced yesterday. Long day was long.
I e-mailed a guy about his RX-8 that I saw on Craigslist that morning, and then rather than sit around and fret
eclipsegryph and I went out to test drive cars. I then got an e-mail from said guy, so hoping things would get in motion and we could go look at his car, we went home and butted around. He didn't get back to me, and I got to fret more. Then on a whim I searched through Craigslist for Eclipses in the area one more time. As luck would have it, I saw a 2008 Eclipse GT Spyder for a killer price, at a dealership of all places!
Yeah, I bought it.
The sales associate was really cool - my age, so we joked about pop culture and Napoleon Dynamite as he took me through the paperwork. I was very relieved that this particular dealership was also pretty low pressure and laid back, like the place I bought my tC from, and there was no haggling. I was already getting private party for the car, and that was about as good as I could expect. Even better, actually.
So in the end, in this round I test drove one of the newer tCs, a Ford Fiesta (WTF? Pushy sales lady at the Ford dealership practically forced me into that car. I told her I was looking a sporty two door. A FIESTA IS NEITHER), and I made
eclipsegryph smash his giant man body into as many Miatas as I could find.
OH, and since the dealership I was buying the Eclipse at was Chevy, the sales associate who was helping me got wind via
eclipsegryph that I loooooooove Corvettes, and he took me out for a spin in one! I swear, if I had more dollars and less sense I would have walked out with that car and not the Eclipse.
And of course, it would figure that the day I buy a convertible, it's slated to rain for a good 10 days. Oh well, it's winter and it's not like I'm going to put the top down anyways. I totally didn't do that with my loaner. Not once. Right.
And the upgrading has already started as well. I'm looking into struts and springs OR coilovers (because dear God, dat wheel gap), a sway bar, and a bit of electronics work. It doesn't have an AUX port but they're easy to put in, so that will be my first mod.
Anyways. Sweet car. V6, premium wheels, premium sound system, and faster than the tC ever was. Even with all that though, I still miss her. But I'm sure I can get just as attached to this one.
The end. Have a Pippin.
