Happy hump-a-lump-a-whump-a day!
Er, whatever.
There are 2 days left to sign up
femgenficathon and a bunch of prompts remain unclaimed. I hope some of you will sign up - remember, it's multifandom, is a great opportunity to reverse some of that erasure of female characters that's so common in fandom, and fics aren't due until late July so you've got 3 months to come up with something. *prods f-list*
Despite the irony of my having agreed with
birdseyeview the other day that quote prompts do nothing for me, I'm quite pleased with the one I got:
There seems to be a kind of order in the universe, in the movement of the stars and the turning of the earth and the changing of the seasons, and even in the cycle of human life. But human life itself is almost pure chaos. Everyone takes his stance, asserts his own rights and feelings, mistaking the motives of others, and his own. --Katherine Anne Porter
I'm pretty sure I'm going to write about Ekaterin. I've been toying with an idea for a while where she and Ivan are in a lightflyer that crashes in the Dendarii Mountains - now I think I'll include Kareen as well, and Ivan is knocked unconscious so it's up to Ekaterin and Kareen to rescue him and get back to Hassadar before Miles can claim all the glory for himself. *g*
Let's see, what else? I spent most of the weekend laid up with a respiratory ailment that decided to migrate to my lower intestinal tract about 4:30 Monday morning, just as I was about to get up and get the Goblin off the school. That's all behind me now, but in its place my allergies are having a grand old time.
I've done my federal and Michigan tax returns for both of us (alas, the Goblin has to file as well), so now all I have left are Virginia's, and they're not due until May 1. I hate doing partial-year returns.
There's
a medieval conference to be held in Roanoke in November with the theme "Natural, Unnatural, and Supernatural," and they've put out a call for papers due June 1. I've never presented a paper at a conference before, but a small one like this might be a good opportunity to get my feet wet. I have a potential idea brewing, but I need to sit down and do some preliminary research to see if it's viable. It would be good for me, I think, to get back into that frame of mind after the long winter doldrums.
I also really need to get cracking on my NaNo 2009 story. I failed massively at NaNoEdMo last month.
New In Plain Sight tonight! *squees* New Ashes to Ashes on Friday! *squees some more*
I turn 41 in less than 3 weeks! Okay, that one's not worth a squee.
My Richard Armitage obsession continues to run amuck. Even omitting the execrable Robin Hood, this could last awhile. Hopefully I'll be able to fight off the urge to attempt another Harry Potter/Spooks crossover or fluffy Geraldine/Harry (Kennedy, not Potter) Vicar of Dibley fic *shakes e-fist at
katieay* before then.
Today's the mostly official deadline for posting to the
takingitinturns "Keeping Secrets" challenge, so my friends page is being flooded with Harry/Ginny goodness. I hope y'all will peruse the postings and leave comments for folks. I'll make another desperate plea plug for my entry,
"The Life Cycle of the Zanzibar Fruitfly," and highly recommend
r_becca's fic
"Thicker than Water," which I had the pleasure of beta-reading and so can personally attest to its awesomeness. (ETA: And!
ladywhizbee's
"In Dreams and Dragon Lords" (presently a WIP), which I also beta-read.)
In closing, here's your recommended daily allowance of Richard Armitage:
Cheers!
