Snow me

Dec 18, 2009 13:47

Most of my corner of Virginia is in a a tizzy over the storm headed our way, with the weather geeks predicting 12-18", possibly 2 feet, of snow to hit the area tonight and tomorrow. There's even a possibility for thundersnow.

Several school systems in rural counties closed entirely in anticipation of bad weather, and those that didn't closed school early (Gobs got out at noon, rather than 3:10 like he usually does, and swimming practice was cancelled). The local grocery stores are a mob scene, with bread and milk flying off the shelves faster that you can say, "Santa Claus!" Road crews have already sprayed bridges with icing repellent and my downstairs neighbor is unloading a truckload of firewood outside. Everyone's hunkering down and digging in.

I will LMAO if we end up getting only a few inches.

Anyhoodle, though y'all may not be facing "the Blizzard of '09" (*rolls eyes*), I've got a couple of smutty_claus recs I've been meaning to share, to ease you into your weekend.

* Throwdown. Harry/Tonks. Voldemort had been a piece of cake compared to fighting a pretty girl.

Great fun to read. Harry's voice is both hilarious and poignant.

* A Life Closed Twice Before Its Close. Harry/Ginny. On Halloween, a recurring figment comes back to Harry’s life.

Eerie and atmospheric. I really liked the way Ginny is characterized, equal parts feisty and compassionate. One thing that stood out was how the smut wasn't the climactic moment the rest of the story was leading up to, but rather opens the story, thus letting the "true" story take center stage; in other words, the smut is a contributing element, rather than the raison d'etre.

I hope you'll read these and enjoy them as much as I did. If so, don't forget to leave a review!

I also have some Harry/Ginny art to rec, 2 illustrations I found while looking for inspiration:

* Harry and Ginny lineart by nami86

* Wedding Day by Rae_F

I like both for the same reasons - the simple lines, the "quietness" of the scene, and the gentle intimacy between Harry and Ginny. Both convey why I still find myself drawn to this pairing after all these years.

I really want to write, but this post-NaNo malaise is making me nuts. Ficlet/drabble-type-thingy prompts, please? Harry Potter, Star Trek (preferably Reboot, but I might consider a TNG, DS9, or VOY prompt), Vorkosigan saga, gen or het. Thanks! :-)

fic, carry me back to ole virginny, recs
