I was re-reading Cetaganda the other day and got to the part with the kitten trees. It's pretty horrible to imagine, but what really caught my attention is that Ivan seems to have a thing for kittens (I'll refrain from the obvious allusion to his reputation as a Lothario. Okay, maybe I won't.). Not only did he try to rescue the kitten from the tree - to tragicomic effect - but there's also the scene in A Civil Campaign where he tries to impress Ekaterin by playing with one of Zap's kittens. Methinks this is a character trait that needs further examination in fic. *rubs chin thoughtfully*
I was re-reading Cetaganda, btw, because I would dearly love to read some Pel Navarr/Dag Benin, rife with UST, pent-up longing, and forbidden desire. Mrawr. Alas, I'll probably have to write it myself.
I wish November 19 would hurry up and get here so I can get the Star Trek XI DVD.
