Chapter 20 -Tea with DeLetta
Narcissa had left some Muggle make up for concealing my mark.
I eyed them wearily. “I have never touched any before, it is ironic that I require these now. Where did she get them from, I didn’t think the Malfoys touched anything Muggle?”
Severus sniffed the foundation powder in disgust. “What people do for vanity. This would do no good to the skin in long term. It will only be temporary; I shall produce something more suitable for you soon. As for Narcissa, I believe she had experimented with every possible beauty products like any other school girls in that age. Muggle or not, when it is useful, then it should be taken advantage of.”
I still didn’t like them. “I believe magic is out of the question?” I dabbed my index finger in the powder and smeared some on to the Mark, the sensation sent a shiver down my spine. I had the sudden desire to ruffle my feathers. Feathers? “The phoenix did not like it.”
“Phoenix?” Severus asked sharply.
“I was a green phoenix during the test. I think a part of it stayed in the Mark. This must be what a bird feels if its feathers are covered in dust.” I gave another shiver. “I will bear it if I have too.”
“I am sorry Olga. It is dangerous when we are not sure of DeLetta’s loyalty, once that past we can start to let the general public know of your status.” Severus held my chin, tilted my head to varies angles to check that my Mark was complete covered.
I was aware that Severus stay away from details of my test. I had something else to tell him before I can let that tread fade. “I dreamt of you and Draco been captured by Death Eaters and I save a death curse flying towards you, that was when I woke up.”
The hand stilled. Dark eyes stared into mine.
“It felt so real! It could be real, it could be a vision! Let me show you.” I took hold of the hand, opened my mind and invited him in. The dream had been in the forefront of my mind all day, it only took Severus a moment to view and withdraw.
He had a troubled look on his face. “I have always preferred to be given the truth instead of a comforting lie no matter how painful the truth is.” He looked me in the eye. “So my true opinion is what I am giving you.” I nodded. “Fighting the Death Mark might have brought on the dream of death and Death Eaters, but the death mark was realistic, since you have not seen a Morsmordre in real life, the logic conclusion would be you have experienced a vision.”
“The death.” I murmured weakly.
“Olga.” Strong arm pulled me close. “You did not see the curse struck. Hold on to that thought.”
Severus’ presence calmed me. “I think it is time for me to face the world once again.”
He stood up. With an elaborate bow, he said, “May I have the honour to escort you to dinner, My Lady?”
It brought a smile to my face. “Certainly.”
CHANGEOFSCENE
The Hall was full when we arrived. By the time we stopped by my seat at the high table we had attracted the whole school’s attention. This had not escaped Severus’ notice. He gave me a wink. A show was on.
As per usual, Severus pulled out my chair for me and helped me to sit down, but before he left, he bent down, within the full view of the school body, he gave me a kiss fully on the lip.
A wolf-whistle sounded among the loud gasps. I lifted my eyes and stared at Draco, who had the nerve to give a thumb up before resuming his conversation with Blaise.
“How are you feeling?” enquired the always practical Poppy.
“Still weak, but glad to be out about.” I turned to her and smiled. “I am grateful for your care of me.”
“You know it is not necessary, everyone in this castle is under my care.” She patted my hand. “I think congratulation is in order.”
I blushed.
She laughed softly. “That wasn’t my original meaning, but I can see my amiss. You would do each other good.” Seeing my confusion, she taped her left cheek. “I see you wish to keep it hidden. I understand the need at the present, but destiny should be faced. It is an honour and also a duty.”
“Yes. I understand.” I said solemnly. Destiny, Poppy had touch on my uneasiness without knowing.
As if she sense my mood, Poppy changed the topic and filled my on the school affairs and a large share of the current tattles.
CHANGEOFTHESCENE
The rest of the week flew pass.
The staff had warmed up with me. They all expressed their gladness of having me back, and when not in Severus’ hearing range, congratulation on getting through the stern man’s defence.
Halloween feast was not as grant as usual. The official reason was that the Eighth Years were starting their NEWTs exams the day after, but I knew Severus was not fond of the extravagant decorations by the late Headmaster.
The exams were hectic. The Ministry had sent specified examiners, but there were still much coordination works that left for me to do.
I leaned back on the classroom door after the led the last DADA student out after their practical. It was only Monday!
“May I invite you to tea? My office is just around the corner.”A slight accented voice sounded just above me. I jumped.
“Oh sorry! Professor DeLetta!” I froze for a fraction of a second before I recovered. “You startled me.”
“I came to see how well my student done, I am too late I see. No matter. We have been introduced but never properly met. No time is better than now, yes?” He gave me a brilliant smile and offered his arm.
All alarm signals had gone off in my head, but I could not refuse him without him been more suspicious. No time is better than now to pull all my Slytherin wit and any Gryffindor courage I have! Let my nerves under control and took up his arm, I answered with my best Narcissa smile and said. “What a great idea Professor.”
He threw back his head and laughed. “I love the openness, my fair Olga.” He paused, looking at me in the earnest, “May I call you Olga? I hope I was not too presumptuous.” I nodded to give him approval. “You must call me Marcos. The British are too tight up to my liking. You are not originated here, correct?”
Straight to the questioning. Maybe he just been inquisitive? “No, I have been travelling, only settled here after the war.”This was technically correct since I only arrived in this world during the Last Battle.
“Oh? I am glad to hear that you had missed the war. Let us not talk any further on the dark times. You must have gain much knowledge on exotic potions on your travels, please tell.”
We had arrived at the Defence Processor’s personal chamber. I took my time getting myself settled down on a couch to arrange a passable lie. I decided a modified truth was the best solution in the long term.
“Actually not. I worked with Muggle, ‘chemicals’ is what they call potions. It was fascinating watching those large processing plants.”
“Ah, you are just like our dear Professor Kwong! Tea? How would you take it?”
“A dash of milk and no sugar, thank you.”
I accepted the cup offered, but a faint scent had stopped me taking a drink.
Marcos saw my paused and laughed. “A true Master!”
I tensed.
“This tea is one of my personal blends. A secret recipe you may say. No one had ever picked up the different scent from the Earl Gray base! I have not tried this on our Headmaster since he has not graced my office with his presence as yet.”
I sat the cup down, there was no way I would drink this knowing it contains some suspicious substances. “Maybe you can give Severus a sample to see what he thinks?”
“Let him free range to examine my secret recipe? Not a good idea, ma chère dame.” He motioned with his own cup. “Please have a try, great to smooth the after class headaches.”
“Thank you, but no.” I racked my brain for an excuse but came up with none. “I am allergic to some substance. I think it is safer if I left this, unless you would tell me the secret ingredients?” I raised half an eye brow at him in a mock challenge.
“Ah, have some of the sweets then, sorry this is only the ones from our Hogwarts’ kitchen. I am afraid I have indulged my stock from my home. Next time?”
I let out a mental sigh. That was a close call.
The rest of the conversation stayed on Hogwarts and the students, and soon was time to go down for dinner.
As we walked in the corridors, the students were greeting us with more ease and warmth than I was used to. Seemed our defence professor was well liked. Anyone is better than what they have had before. I mused. Severus had scared the students in the class, and the fear had more or less carried on to me due to our proximity.
I had caught Severus’ eyes at soon as I set feet in the Hall. They were narrowed on sighting Marcos arriving with me.
I am alright, need to talk but later. I conveyed when I felt the presence of a light Legilimency.
Marcos chuckled. “I will leave you now, better not have your petit ami form any ideas.” He bowed and walked to his seat on the other end of the high table, pausing only to give a short greeting to Severus.
Severus stood up and came over.
“How did the Defence examination gone? I went down to the office to fetch you.” He asked.
“Well. Master Greenwick was tight lipped but he did express his regret not seeing Mister Potter among the examinees.” Severus snorted.
I ignored and continued. “Professor DeLetta came at the end of the session but missed the examiner because we finished before schedule. I was invited to tea.” Severus frowned.
“Marcos has the most interesting blend of tea, I recommend you to visit him and try it.”
The hand on my shoulder tensed. I took it in my own and gave it a squeeze. “Regrettably I had to refuse, but I did offer him to give you a sample, but he couldn’t part with his secret recipe.”
Severus relaxed. “I am glad you are better acquainted.”
“Yes, Marcos is very inquisitive, but I enjoyed myself.”
Severus was going to ask more but refined himself because we were starting to draw people’s attention.
“Chocolate mousse is on the menu, I believe it your favourite.” A light kiss and he was gone.
