HBP movie review

I know I know, the movie been out for ages... but still...

Firstly, the movie exceeded my expectations.  I confess that I read many reviews before I went, and it didn’t give me a good feeling about it. But I dragged few friends and booked us in at IMAX. And it was worth it.

HERE COMES THE SPOILERS

OMG they ruined SNAPE! Firstly they didn’t give him many scenes to work with, and the ones they did give him? They were all canon-ly out of character!?! I mean, how could Snape ever go “shh” to Harry? He was so SOFT in the movie!! I understand that they had no idea (maybe some idea) of Snape’s loyalties while making the previous movies, so it was ambiguous. It doesn’t mean now they know, they have to flag it about EVERY SINGLE SCENE!!

On the other hand Tom Felton’s Draco was great J The stress, the internal struggle… He was isolated, from his followers, his house. He would even confront Snape. It was a complete transformation from the naïve “my father said” Draco to the now “No one can help me” Draco.

They made Dumbledore so EVIL! Manipulative old man… Jim Broadbent’s Horace Slughorn was wonderful. I can’t get over how he did the eye brow rising with the big eye balls…

There are few comical moments, with the brilliant performance from Rupert Grint (Ron) and Jessie Cave (Lavender). One the same note, Bonnie Wrights’ Ginny was convincing, although could improve with better scenes.  Some of them just don’t make sense. Maybe I should revise the book again, but I’m sure Rowling didn’t write her like that.

Hermione… Wasn’t much of her in the movie, but she did well with what she got.

Don’t you agree the ending was weak? The fighting, wait, do you all that fighting?!? Death Eaters came into the castle, right, what did they do? Nothing, a part from smashing few glasses and set a house on fire! Where was that (screaming) “DON’T CALL ME COWARD” part (note the BOLD)?!?

Quidditch match reappeared, but it was a bit overwhelming (not all in the good way) with the large IMAX screen.

And the score! They reused the “Firework”! I loved Nicholas Hooper’s work for the HP5, but it was very disturbing that the only time I was made aware of the music was when the Firework was used! Even now I cannot recall any new theme from this movie. I remember the moment I walked out of the cinema after watching HP5 I wanted so much to get the soundtrack. To name a few mesmerizing tracks: “Fireworks”, "A Journey to Hogwarts”, "Flight of the Order of the Phoenix", "Dumbledore's Army".

The cinematography was wonderful with the “metallic hues”, to give a darker tone as we approach the ending of the series.

Anything I missed?

Overall - 6.5/10 - Enjoyable enough that I did not get bored, but could done better with an improved script.
