Chase is wearing big boy Cookie Monster underwear and feeling like hot stuff, as he should!!
I swear you guys this kid is potty training himself all I do is help him with his pants when he tells me "potty!" I'm so proud of him for doing this on his own before he is even 2.
One of his next goals for occupational therapy is to be able to put his own pants on, which is challenging when your shoulder is 'slumped'in a very un-natural position. I'll get his formal evaluation next week with all of his new goals.
My little mans vocabulary is really taking off, he is putting words together regularly now which pleases him because he can communicate better (and tattle on his sissy better).
As far as improvements with his Brachial Plexus Injury he is doing very well.
He can (with effort) feed himself, cover his eyes, drum or bang, carry large objects, almost get his pants up. These are huge milestones for a kid with his degree of injury. The flexion at his elbow (to my eyes) looks fantastic, "normal", it's his shoulder that sits wrong in the socket, it kind of hangs down and forward and we are focused on 'fixing' that the best that we can. Chase unfortunately may need secondary surgery if we cannot get this issue resolved better than it is now. As grim as more surgery sounds (and makes me want to cry) he really has comes a very long way and is continually getting stronger.
His hand and wrist now stay in neutral, which means they look normal in the way he carries them. With a shirt on most people cannot even tell he has an injury which makes me happy because it is so important for a kid to "look normal" because lets face it there are mean kids who look for reasons to tease.
I still have every intention of signing him up for martial arts when he is 4 so he can build confidence, and strength. Confidence is everything!
