Health update.

Hi, all!

I had a bunch of doctors' appointments yesterday. Looks like the things that the trauma docs thought was the problem is not actually the problem; it's *a* problem, but a minor one that the vascular surgeon doesn't think is worth fixing. The real problems, on the other hand, are inoperable: either my body will fix them (likely, but long-term), or it won't (then they'll look again and see if there's anything else to be done), but in either case there's nothing they can do to speed the healing.

Too bad. I was really hoping for a wave of the magical surgery-wand to make everything better. It would have been unpleasant, then followed by another recovery period -- but it probably would have been a six week recovry period, and it's now looking like I'm not going to be good as new for ... well, ages. 6 months? A year? Ever? Don't know.

Anyway, he did confirm that elevation and compression are all I can do, and he gave me a prescription for super-compressing compression stockings. And he says if it's not better in three months to come back and he'll take a second look at things. And he was a really nice guy, which is always a bonus.

So there you go. And now, the Colloquium! Starts tomorrow, but the Kelleher lecture is today (OMG). I'll be going in soon to meet with the other organizers, then I have class in the afternoon, and I won't be coming home before late -- then tomorrow it all begins in earnest. AAAH!

See y'all on the other side.

Edited to add: ALSO, this weekend marks 3 year since Matthieu asked me out -- which was, adorably enough, at the annual Harvard Celtic Colloquium. What a sweetie.

health, matthieu
