Summer Solstice, Father's Day, A&S/weekend wrap-up, Garb

A blessed summer solstice to all.  For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, let us make the most of of the light as it diminishes during the rest of the year.  Soon, I will be able to watch the twilight bird ballet at 5 o'clock when I drop off the mail.  They dive and swoop gracefully, then break apart and rejoin ranks and soon settle down into the two trees in front of the Transbay Terminal.  This show lasts around 15 minutes, and passers-by stop and look on in wonder.

A belated Happy Father's Day to all dads and those who do dad-like things!  I hope you were all remembered!

Last Monday after A&S, I was called home for a plumbing emergency.  While there was no initial visible problem, later two of the vanities were backing up from upper floor activity, which had also affected  the floor below me.  I moved boxes, suitcases and clothing to other areas of the workroom on Monday, to accomodate the plumber on Tuesday.  He took care of the problem and I spent the rest of the week including my "travel time to June Crown Friday" putting things away, and trying to do a quick reorganization at the same time.  This was a chore I had planned on for this summer, but not so soon!   So it will be this weekend for putting away all the A&S items and readying the workroom for sewing garb.

I had originally thought of skipping Crown anyway just to get myself a 3 day weekend for workroom cleanup duty, but I felf pretty good on the driving back from Milpitas-hardly felt drowsy so I thought I might go up after all.  The plumbing problem pretty much killed that idea.  But I guess things turned out for the best - I heard there were some site problems, and I may still have felt tired driving due to the distance.  At least I don't have to pack for the next event.  And I even got another couple of non-emergency plumbing items fixed at the same time.

So I hope this weekend to finish putting all the art supplies away and get started on garb.  I need something themed for Westermark Madness (Dark Fairy Tales/Brothers Grimmer), another dress similar to the style of the Pilgrimage dress as well as making a pattern from it and finishing up the muslin into something wearable and getting some sort of bodicy thing made.  I would also like to make a coat from some appropriate SCA-period culture with attendant indoor clothing.  The ME/NE/Persian/etal garb class I took at A&S seems to be the way to go.  I would be nice when I travel by bus to an event to not deal with a cape and a mundane jacket.

The Cloondara A&S meeting this evening will cover "Fancy Garb for 12th Night" a class taught by Etainne (I missed it at Collegium-conflicted w/another class).  She always looks great and I am sure I will get some inspiration to make myself something nice.  I will be bringing some of my "fancy fabric" from my first time around 20 years ago (for Q &A), I am sure it is not suitable now, but we can all have a good laugh!  And it might still work for the Westermark event, or a GBACG fairy/fantasy event.
