Character Number: One

Character: Yamamoto Takeshi
Fandom: Katekyo Hitman REBORN!
Age: 15
History: Yamamoto's Reborn wikia page and his wiki page. He's taken from the beginning of the Shimon arc, after their return from the future.

Personality: Unlike many other members of the Vongola family, Yamamoto is an incredibly social boy with a carefree disposition and an ever-present smile. On the outside, he is the typical "jock" stereotype, as he is seen constantly engaged in baseball to the point of almost killing himself after he breaks his arm, claiming that "the baseball gods threw him away." His "dumb jock" exterior also reflects on his grades, which are lackluster at best, and are made even worse by the fact that he sometimes sleeps through class. He isn't exactly a complete idiot, however, as he is shown to get answers right when he tries and it is even stated that it's his dedication to baseball that lowers his marks. But it's pretty obvious where his priorities lie.

Seemingly ignorant, Yamamoto's cheerfulness also makes him naive to the point where he believes that Tsuna is engaged in a “Cops and Robbers”-esque "Mafia game" and the weapons used are just glorified toys. Despite this shortcoming, he performs incredibly well in battle, without question, and manages to get along with everyone, or at least command their respect in some way. In life, he's lighthearted, but in battle, he's completely levelheaded, making him an excellent contender for the role of Vongola Rain Guardian, and making him natural born hitman, as stated multiple times by Reborn himself. It is this ignorance, however, that confuses his fellow guardians, who are baffled by the idea that Yamamoto has achieved so much while continuing to believe he is participating in a silly game.

It is later shown that Yamamoto's knowledge of the inner workings of the mafia, and the true purpose of the Vongola, is more than he let on, leading some to believe that the naive act was just a way for a normal guy, such as himself, to deal with the bizarre situation he found himself in. He is also shown not to be as stupid and cheerful as he acts, even going as far as verbally beating sense into Gokudera during their fight with Gamma in the future. While Yamamoto is still all smiles and optimism, he truly isn't the naive idiot that most believed him to be, and his sense of awareness truly does extend past the safe bubble of sanity he surrounds himself with.

In the end, Yamamoto is a fiercely loyal boy who is willing to go to great lengths to protect the people he cares about. Time and time again he has made sacrifices for his friends, including injuring his broken arm even further in the fight with Ken in order to protect Tsuna, attempting to save Squalo after the Rain battle, and diving into the middle of battle in order to protect Haru and the children when he arrived in the future, not even fully comprehending the situation. He eventually chooses the sword over baseball, thus choosing the Vongola family over his passion and future (though he eventually does tell Squalo that the decision was only for the future, and promptly returns to baseball as soon as he gets back home). It is this loyalty and dedication that has brought him thus far and kept him alive in the never-ending strife to protect the past, the future and the people closest to him.

Abilities: Though Yamamoto does not possess any super powers or skills in magic, he is endowed with an incredible physical prowess that sets him apart from the other Vongola guardians. Participating in baseball has left Yamamoto agile and strong, and through training with his father, Reborn and, eventually Squalo, he was able to hone in his physical abilities for the good of his Family. His upper body strength from baseball also contributes to his ability to wield a sword, the first one given to him by Reborn in the form of a bat that turns into a katana when swung at 300km/h.

His skills with a sword weren't challenged until he met the Varia swordsman, Squalo, causing him to take up the Shigure Souen Ryu style of sword fighting from his father and inherit the Shigure Kintoki, a shinai that turns into a katana when the family sword style is used. Since then, his skills with a sword have vastly improved, assuring his spot as one of Tsuna's stronger guardians.

Since entering the future, Yamamoto has also acquired a few box weapons (which are opened with the rain flame from his Vongola Ring), including his rain swallow, Kojirou, which has the ability to create a tranquil rainfall and combine with his Shigure Kintoki and his Vongola box, which contains the three short swords that make up "Asari Ugetsu," and his box animal, an akita inu named Jirou. Yamamoto has also gained the ability to combine his rain swallow, Kojirou, with the Shigure Kintoki to create the longsword in his set. After defeating Byakuran, the guardians were also given their box weapons in the form of compact rings, making them easier to transport and use.

Sample writing: Who knew how long they had been in the future for. It could have been three months or three years for all Yamamoto knew (though it felt like ages), and he didn't know much. He did know that they had succeeded, even if they had also failed in a lot of ways. He knew that they may have fixed the future, but the past wasn't going to change. He knew that he missed the smell of Namimori when it wasn't war-torn and quiet as the night. He also knew that there was one thing the future didn't have, and that was the first thing he wanted to see.

Or person, really.

He missed his dad so much that he didn't mind the scolding and the yelling and the talk of disappointment. He could handle the punishment (that wasn't nearly as severe as having to see a future without his father in it) and the extra chores and the lack of a promise for dinner. His dad had no idea what he had been through, but he didn't care because he was home. And that wasn't going to change any time soon.

His father gave him a strange look as he took the handle of the mop without question, a grin on his face bright enough to light up the room, and said three words. "I missed you." And that's all that needed to be said.

He sighed when he hit his bed later that night and didn't waste time in closing his eyes. It felt a little foreign to him, but it was his bed all the same. He missed that too. Sure, the future wasn't so bad since he was there with his friends, doing something that felt like it mattered at the time, but this? This simple mattress? This was heaven. And he had faith that when he woke up in the morning, he'd still be home, in his bed, and life would continue on as it usually did.*

Sample journal entry: [ Let's just say that we aren't in Kansas anymore, Toto. That might have been the first thing on his mind. ...If he thought to reference the Wizard of Oz anyway.

Which he hadn't. He does groan though and shift as he sat up. He has his communicator in one hand, clutched there with a feed running, but that's the least of his concerns. ] I don't remember my bed being this hard.

[ A pause as he looks around. ] Or this...nonexistent.

[ He moves his hand up to rub at the side of his head, trying to soothe away the oncoming headache when he feels something there that wasn't there before... ]

Where am I?

*TOO BAD HE GETS WHISKED AWAY ON ANOTHER ADVENTURE.
