I had taken a little break from posting - my dad fell and broke his hip last week. Over his objections, I called 911 and had the (cute!) paramedics bundle him onto a gurney and away into the ER. Turns out he broke his hip, broke his finger, and bruised himself up pretty good while getting up in the middle of the night to go to the kitchen (to do what, I'm not sure).
Now he's in a nursing home recuperating. He gets to stay there until Wednesday-ish when he goes back where he started, into a care home. I've found him a really good one that smells clean, they have a good staff, a visiting nurse comes in to check on the patients every week, etc. Dad hates the idea but he knows he has no choice now with him not even being able to go to the toilet by himself. So in a care home he will be staying for the foreseeable future.
Even when he does learn to bear weight on that foot, I'm not sure if it's safe for him to be home here anymore. He's always fought against the idea of home care aides. I'm very actively looking for work which means I'm not home a lot in the day. And, he officially has a diagnosis of "dementia" on his medical record now - I'm pretty sure it's thanks to his neurologist and the intake physician at the ER. He knows he can't come home while his leg is healing, but he's still talking about "when I get to go home" and I'm trying to get him used to the idea that he may not be able to go home.
I'll just have to see when the time comes. I'm afraid if he does fight tooth and nail to be back in the house he'll have another accident.
He does miss Anastasia! I will NOT be sending her to the care home to live!
