A constellation of messages in the last couple of days, both direct and indirect:

"I think maybe you worry too much about unimportant things. Follow your bliss. Believe in your own power of goodness and worth. You just might surprise yourself. Instead of thinking about the negatives, focus on all of the positives." (From an e-mail with a NP mentor.)

"I've always been of the mind that if you stay true to yourself, and do what you love, you're doing what's best for both yourself and your work." (Quote from Beth - from BPAL - in a recent interview.)

"You have all these different goals in life, and you'll drive yourself crazy if you try to do them all perfectly. The perfect student, wife, vegan, environmentalist, daughter, sister, friend... forget it. You have to integrate a certain humility--to just accept that you can't be perfect, but you can make an effort. [...] You have to pick and choose! YOU HAVE TO. Decide on "your poison" (your good deed), and then just deal with it. Do one thing perfectly, or do a few things well-ish, or do a little of everything mediocre-ly. The planet isn't going to stop rotating no matter which of these options you choose. But if you try to do everything really really well, then YOU will burn out and keel over." (From an e-mail conversation with one of my best friends.)

What's that joke about the guy drowning in a flood and cursing God? I think the universe is trying to send me a guy in a rowboat.
