It's pretty much over. The year has wound down. So it goes.
Today I spent 6 and a half hours doing special education paperwork, plus two hours grading, plus an hour planning. But it's done. 4 more days of kids, one day of wrapping it all up, and then I am officially not a first year teacher anymore. I made it. I lived through it. Not only that, I found my own measure of happiness in it.
The happiness, I know now, comes from these 26 names.
I know I will never forget these students that I taught my first year. Rubi, Belinda, Diana, José Luis, Miguel, Jimmy, Josie, Albert, Richard, Gustavo, Armando, Mitchell, Yomaira, Junior, Elliott, Renato, Mario, Joe, Octavio, Gilbert, Mayra....But mostly Omar, Jesus, Joel, Zamira, and Norma. This one's been for you guys.
So that's that. In 4 short days some of these students will never be in my class again. But I know, and they do too, that no matter what I will always be their teacher.
