Nothing is more infuriating than being an authority figure without the ability to enforce rules. We have mock TAKS testing today, and there are 28 crazy special education students in my room ALL day. They aren't allowed to leave after they are done. So here's what happens:
About 1 hour into the day, the first student is finished testing. Over the next hour, most of the rest of the students finish up, leaving just 3 students still testing. So now it is up to the two teachers in the room to keep 26 very active, non-school oriented kids from talking to each other... in a room that is normally only for about 12 students.
The worst thing is, we don't have ANY ammunition. We can't kick them out for talking, there is no where to send them. We can't take the students who are testing any where else. Writing them up doesn't make sense, because the punishment doesn't fit the crime, and the principals wouldn't enforce anything either, making referrals an ineffective measure. Asking them to be quiet works for about 10 seconds. So. There is basically nothing we can do. And they know it. So they just sit there and smirk at while I ask them to stop talking for the sake of their classmates.
In other news, I resigned from teaching today. I was called into the office and they put a piece of paper on the desk in front of me asking for my resignation.
Before you get your panties in a twist, it's not serious. It's because my testing information hasn't come in yet. Once it comes in, and I am certified, the district will recommend me for the job again and all will be as it was before. It's just funny, I've only been teaching for 7 months and they already have asked for my resignation.
