July Already?

It’s hard to believe but it’s already July, actually it’s almost the end of July. My only real excuse for not blogging is that school has to come first and when I’m not studying I’m resting so I can study or enjoying what free time I have.

I’ve really been getting stressed by all the college work I have to do along with my job so pardon the long breaks between blogs. I just recently realized that I am in college, I’m on my own now and this could make the difference between a good job or not. Also I just realized I only have four years left before I’m thrown into the cold harsh grown up (take note on how I use grown up instead of adult) which why I’m trying to make the most of my college life while it’s still there.

A lot has happened in the past few weeks and it shows how many things can happen in two weeks! Here are some of the highlights of those two weeks
The Guidon

The Guidon is the Ateneo de Manila University’s official newspaper and it’s a very well respected one as well. A lot of people say it’s A good thing on your resume and it really has high standards for it’s staff. I applied for the web team of The Guidon and by some grace of God I passed (with a really flattering acceptance letter) though I was only given a probational membership since I was a newbie.

The Guidon had their T2 last Saturday, July 14, 2007. It was an extremely fun and tiring day, I never thought a newspaper would actually be as (for the lack of a better term) chaotically fun as this. I was a little stressed during the morning though because I accidentally left my wallet in my dad’s car and I had to borrow money from my grandmother who lives near by (had to run from the campus to ministop back and forth).
Math Diagnostic Test

This was probably the most nerve racking moment in my entire life. In the Ateneo, the math subject you take depends on your performance in the ACET math proficiency part. Most freshmen are given Math 11 classes (regular math class), people with a slightly lower score than usual but passed the ACET are given Math 10 (also called math 1 or basic math) classes.

Besides the preliminary judgment on the math placement, there is also the math diagnostic test given a month after the start of school. All freshmen who are taking up math subjects are required to take the exam to see if they really are supposed to be in the regular section or in the basic section (some students are move up from basic to regular and some are moved down from regular to basic). It wasn’t really a hard test but I was very tense when I took it and I guess it had an effect on my grade.

We were given the results the week after and I got a 49/100 (the passing being 50%) which really disturbed me (who wouldn’t be angry with themselves when they failed by 1 single point). It was a good thing I checked my paper and I found out my teacher forgot to credit my solutions on the application part of the test! By some stroke of luck I was given a 54/100 and allowed to stay in math 11!

After math class my block and I decided to celebrate (in my case use up the built up adrenaline ). We went to the field beside the Manila Observatory and basically had fun!

Here are some pictures.

Day to day hang outs

Well when I’m not studying or working I usually just hang out, rest and have fun around the campus with my block. Most of the time we hang out at Matcha Green Tea at the SOM Mall, sometimes at the Macci and other times at the MVP. Sometimes we play cards, other times we take pictures and sometimes we play uno stacko.

Last Wednesday we were at the MVP basement where we played cards and spin the bottle (so juvenile but a lot of bonding fun).
