So my green and frugal efforts have come to a sort of stand-still.

My goals from last month included: bringing re-usable bags to the grocery store, planning home projects, and following all receipts for a month.

I did manage to bring bags to the grocery store, so now it’s just a matter of maintaining this practice.  I started leaving the bags in the back of my car, so as long as we bring my car to the store with us, we’re good.

We did start planning some home projects, but money has been incredibly tight to that’s going to be pushed off until the spring.

I also followed all receipts, and it was rather depressing. Between school and some unexpected home improvements, we’re just going to have to hold our breath and go underwater for a while until things settle down.  I really hate doing that, but at least we know that we’ll be able to come through it.

I am looking to eat healthier lately. Some medical things have come up and I really need to start paying better attention to my body and my health.  I have decided to combine that with my green efforts and will be doing the following:

Buy more local/organic. My grocery store carries local produce and it just so happens that the leanest beef available also happens to be the organic brand. The store brand also has an organic line for a lot of things like canned vegetables; I’ve already tried the organic beans.

Eat vegetarian (occasionally). I have read that if you eat vegetarian at least one day a week that it increases overall sustainability [citation needed] and I think it’s just a good idea all around.
