So just a couple of days ago, my mom and I found a deep laceration on my dog's thigh. Not only that, but we found a tumor on his shoulder and his hot spots have gotten worse this year--his hair's been falling out and there are patches all around his waist and wrists. So we make an appointment with the vet most readily available. His name was Dr. Starks.
We get there and the receptionist was extra nice to us, and the nurse was great, too. But the doctor was just so rude to my mom and me. Turns out, even though I treated the laceration with what I had, it was still infected and the area around it had to be removed. We don't know if his tumor is benign or not, and his hot spots are really a skin infection caused by fleas. I take good care of my dogs, and it just devastated me to hear it. I was on the verge of tears. I give my dogs Advantage which is supposed to be the best flea protection out there. What am I supposed to do when the best doesn't do enough?
The guy, in order to see if Spot had heart worms or not, had to get a blood sample. Spot lashed out (he had a muzzle) and made a ferocious noise LIKE he was going to bite him--but of course, he had a muzzle on, and Spot doesn't bite anybody anyways. He's very protective, and he never bites--he only lunges and makes feints to LOOK ferocious. But the guy got an attitude with us and Spot and was like "If he's going to bite me, it's done. I'm not doing any more." We just PAID you to take care of our dog! How DARE you not treat him with not only disrespect, but you refuse us service after we paid? I'm pretty sure that's illegal. In any case, you've got anesthetics, so him biting you while you remove the infected area and suture him up is pretty minimal. And I'm sure you can give him the vaccinations while the anesthetics are still in effect. He said that multiple time, and Spot was really good for the rest of the visit--he certainly didn't do anything to provoke that reaction more than once. And he just kept making snide comments about it (like "He's dangerous" and "Has he bitten anybody recently?" and "Well, he didn't just bite that laceration into himself--SOMETHING must have cut him. A dog fight?") and tried to talk with all this medical jargon. It thoroughly confused my mom, so I explained exactly what was happening to him.
On top of everything, I've got to leave work early so that I can pick Spot up from that awful man because my dad's at work and my mom would never skip her training for anything. After I pick him up, I'm taking Spot to Petsmart and getting him a new ball and whatever else he wants. I know he'll turn out okay and that the man can't do anything to him legally. Even so, I worry.
In other news, my friends took me out the day before my birthday to Holiday World. It was the first time I'd driven anywhere far away (about 3 hours), so I was excited. I "saved" Rina a second time this summer. She got heat exhaustion and she couldn't move without getting really dizzy. She blacked out twice; once when she went down the water slide and once when she was laying down while I got the EMT. The thing is, the EMTs were on the exact opposite side of the water park--so I had to walk all the way down to get somebody and all the way back. And the guy was stupid and wouldn't hurry. But when he got there, I guess he realized I wasn't exaggerating and started being kinda sorta helpful and offered a wheelchair. We got her to the building and spent pretty much the rest of our day there--at least, until the park was just about closed. She felt much better. :)
On the drive back, I had to get gas. These jokers caught me outside the gas station and asked if I raced. I didn't even respond and walked right past them. They drove past me and turned onto the road going away from the highway, but I ignored them and went the other way. Not even worth my time.
Then on my birthday, my grandma gave me enough money to buy a really nice printer!!! I ended up getting a nice printer (as opposed to really nice) so I could get a warranty, cables, surge protector, and ink. My friends took me out again to go laser tagging where we went up against a team of pot smokers. They were yelling "Jihad! Jihad!" when they tried to get Rina, but Rina went commando on them and got all six without getting hit. I surprised them from the bottom of a flight of stairs and got them all, and one of them yelled "Shit! I smoked too much weed!" O_o Thanks for announcing that.
I went out with Rachel and Sarah yesterday. We WERE going to go to this buffalo wing place, but we weren't 21 (though we did see Scott there!) so we went to Noodles & Co. We tried going to Glendale's theater to see a movie, but Rachel had her directions all mixed up so we got lost. Eventually, we passed Michigan and we knew where we were, so I got us there okay. We were there just in time to see "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" which I liked. It was very funny at times and very awkward for me at others--I had to cover my face occasionally cos I couldn't stand the corniness. I also saw Hairspray with my parents a few days ago--VERY good! I bought the soundtrack to it (along with the RENT dvd) the day after. I know Rachel was a little offended cos I teased her a bit when she mixed her directions up, but she was over it before we even got there. Sarah said she wasn't serious, and I hope she wasn't. I mean, I really don't like anybody going to Butler from Pike except Rachel, and I really hope we can be good friends even though we really didn't hang out in high school.
All in all, it's been a fun week or so with the exception of the visit to the vet. I'm getting more hours at work, which I don't mind; the pool's extra slow since the township schools started. It's weird not being in school. Even my college friends have moved away, and I move in this Saturday. I'm just so anxious to move in and get it done and over with. Everybody keeps talking about how they've met new people and how they've "g2g--wii sports down the hall" and such while I'm stuck at home with my laptop. I just want to move in and make my own friends and have a good time instead of sitting around. So I'm getting off my laptop to have lunch, go to work, pick up my dog, visit Petsmart, then go hang out with Kim!
