Take That You Impatient Bastards

It's probably petty that I'm taking such pleasure in getting the best of my guests, but they really were starting to drive me crazy. Seriously, like ape-shit bonkers.

During the week, breakfast here starts at 0600 (weekends, 0700). I usually have to start making stuff about an hour before hand to get everything out on time. It may be a sign that we put way too much crap out for breakfast, but that's just the way it is. When they add another bit of bar, they'll probably find even more crap for me to put out, but that's neither here not there. Still, with muffins and danishes and biscuits and gravy and coffee and various restocking, it does take somewhere between 40 minutes to an hour, depending on how often I get interrupted.

Normally, I leave the door cracked open so that I can hear my phone ringing. Unfortunately, even with the sign right next to the door and most of the lights off (I leave one set on so that I can see what the hell I'm doing), people still come in and start taking from whatever I have out, be it just cereal and juice or bagels and biscuits. It has fast become a personal pet peeve. Seriously, people, if you have to leave before breakfast is ready, go get something from Wal-Mart. If you don't have to leave before I get it out, you can bloody well wait.

I've bitched about this to Mike and he keeps telling me to just shut the door. I point out that I can't hear the phone. He scoffs and says they can call back. This morning, I finally took him at his word and I shut the door. I heard a couple of people pull at it, but it was locked. When I glanced outside, I noticed a few people standing or sitting, looking impatient. I grinned to myself. I got done a full ten minutes before I thought I would because I didn't have to bother with people getting underfoot or asking me inane questions or nothing.

I think this is going to become a regular habit and damn anyone who gets impatient. I keep the Night 1 phone with me which means that people calling from outside the hotel can reach me. Anyone who wants to use Express Checkout can either leave their keys in their rooms or leave them at the desk.

Unrelated note to self: drinking a full pot of coffee by yourself over the course of about three hours is a bad idea. Even when it's a really good pot of Kahlua Creme (no, there's no alcohol) from Central Market. Talk about the freaking shakes!
