Let's put it this way: I changed my last name to my mother's (legally) because I hate him so much. It's a long, involved story that basically comes down to him abandoning me twice. And he doesn't understand why I hate his guts.
Oh, I'm sorry, that really sucks. Especially since he doesn't seem to be able to get a clue.

It does suck. But I've accepted it as a fact of life. And I only really have to deal with him when both of us are visiting Melanie. But then there are babies that I can distract myself with. ;)
