The Mercury Cafe is awesome. A lady named Marilyn owns it and she is just this awesome witch hippie extraordinaire. She is very active politically and hosts many lefty type events. She also has an acting troupe called the Allied Witches League. You can find dance lessons from belly dance to swing. She used to donate space in the upstairs ballroom to Ad Astra once a month for whatever event we wanted to hold. She supports local growers and farmers for the restaurant and most of her food is organic and I believe almost everything there is gluten free. Her menu is a little bit pricey and the service is ungodly slow, but there is plenty of odd and unique decor to entertain yourself with while waiting. There is usually some sort of open mic thing going on almost every night of the week. She does not take credit cards, but she is happy to take your cash or your check. How's that for a plug? Oh, she is also one of the local pioneers of biofuel conversions for cars.
Paris on the Platte is also very cool. They have great "boards" of cheeses and fruits and meat and may very well be the only food establishment where you can still smoke indoors, if that sort of thing is of interest to you.
You may want to lookup the Firespinning Tribe when you get there. They perform/practice down by the Platte River behind the big REI sporting goods store - this will make sense once you get there.
LoDo is the gentrified area of LOwer DOwntown Denver.
Cool clubs...The Church (an actual converted gothic style church), lots of goth events. Cervantes and Quixotes were two of my personal faves. Also check out The Shelter on Broadway.
You must, I repeat *must* discover a band/group called Kannal. They also have an alter-ego they perform under called Lunar Fire. Ritually performed music and uber hot yummy boys and girls to gaze upon...ahem...I digress...
If you have not already discovered Westword, look it up. It is Denver's alternative newspaper.
Best metaphysical store - Herbs and Arts on Colfax...ask for Kaywyn or John and mention that I sent you that way. They are a cool bunch of folks. Second best metaphysical store (for the books) is Metaphysical Bookstore on S. Colorado Blvd. Isis on Broadway and Spiritways are good places too. The owner of Spiritways is a good friend of mine and she hosts an annual Witches Ball in October which is usually held at The Mercury.
The best tattoo artist around is Mr. Scary. He is down in Colorado Springs now, but entirely worth the drive. You also have a tattoo artist Brother who works out of Scary's old place, uniquely named - Mr. Scary's. Our brother did my chest piece a few years ago and did quite a stunning job if I do say so myself.
Domo's has sushi to die for and no Denver experience is complete without a visit to the local historic dive eatery known as Pete's Cafe.
There is also a place called the Witches Brew Coffee House. You may want to check it out
You are making me a little homesick... Wish I was there to show you around.
