Dammit! I just remembered that Tina Fey was hosting last night's brand-new SNL.
Oh well - that's what repeats are for, right?
Speaking of TV and important events, tonight is the 80th Academy Awards Ceremony. And you all know what that means: it's also time for Alaina's Fourth Annual Running Commentary to the Oscars!
Again, this year I'm not making any predictions, mainly because the only nominated film I've seen this year was Ratatouille. And here is where I'm going to go on a mini-rant about how, in the past five years, Oscar has gotten progressively more elitist, and it's very frustrating that the movies that get nominated are movies that don't get shown to the public. And I know that the Oscars aren't for the public, and that the public can't vote for them (which is why we have the horribly predictable and trite People's Choice Awards), but I remember the golden years where I had been able to see every nominated movie because they were blockbusters. Now the movies that I go to see are nominated for Special Effects or Makeup.
I think Hollywood has stopped making Oscar pictures accessible to all walks of life. And it doesn't help their cause that I live in Maine, and even in the (relatively) metropolitan "city" of Portland, I don't think La Vie En Rose, The Savages, or Eastern Promises even made it up here.
Okay, rant over. If you'd like to chat with me, I'll be on AIM (most likely) and Yahoo! Messanger as well, but most likely I'll be typing the Commentary on a Word Document. But the good news is that, this year, I have TiVo (of sorts), and I can pause the Oscars to type my thought and then keep going. Yay!
And Double!Yay!: Eddie Vedder's song "Hard Sun" was not nominated for Best Song, so I won't have to hear Eddie Vedder at the Oscars! Woo hoo!
