No more sittin' in the dirt at the drive-in

Christmas was wonderful. I was the last one up (yay!), managed to win a whole $5 on Stocking Scratch Tickets (every year my parents get me and my sister a couple of scratch tickets for our stockings. Every year Missy wins money on all of them, and I lose like a loser. This is why I found it hilarious that Dad expected me to win $10,000 in Vegas) (and this year, the Parental Units spent, like, $10 on scratch tickets, so it's not like I broke even, and Missy still won $10: the streak continues), I got a frying pan for omelettes (because a skillet is too damn big for a three-egg omelette), some gift cards, The Office: Season 5, and some other small stuff. It was nice.

Took a two-hour nap then went to work. Got home about half an hour ago ... and am finally being able to post now.

See, my mother has the oldest computer in history. (Okay, maybe not history.) She bought the Dell I'm currently using back in ... 2001? No, 2002. It will be eight years old next month. We've had it gutted and refurbished twice due to viral infestations. Now it's running on bare bones, but at least we're not on dial-up anymore. Regardless, it took me three tries to get Internet Explorer to load (no Firefox on this one), two minutes to open a Word doc I sent myself from work, another three minutes to get it to print, and then I made the mistake of opening up a tab in IE.

There is a reason my father and I have named this computer "Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel." It is possibly slower than its namesake. I cannot wait until Mom goes computer shopping - she's going to get a new laptop, and then - then! - she's going to get a wireless router, so that the next time I visit, hopefully, I'll be able to post on Sydney from my room.

So when I return to my apartment on Sunday, then I'll catch up on everything. But when it takes a full minute and a half to load my flist ... forget it.

geek squad, magic futon, yankee swap!
