Warning: nothing about this recipe is healthy-- Oh well :-)

One of my favorite things to make around the holidays is doughnuts. Nothing is better then a ring of fatty dough boiling in some oil. :-)
You can, of course, make the dough yourself- but I would rather spend more time with family when waiting for a dough to rise and all that.

Here's what you need:
Deep fryer, or deep skillet pan
A lot of oil (I use veggie oil)
A can of biscuits
and some random tools from around the kitchen

This is the pan I used. I put about a good inch and a half of oil. You want to heat the oil up to about 325 degrees. It can be hard to keep the oil at the same temp, so just be careful. Use a cooking thermometer that can withstand heat over 300 degrees.

These are the canned biscuits I used.

Then place them on a cutting board so you can cut some holes :-)
I used this apple corer that works perfectly.

Save the little balls to make good doughnut holes :-)

While the oil continues to heat up, use the time to decide what you want to use to decorate the doughnuts. I went for a mixture of red, green, and white sugar

When the oil is ready- use a wooden sewer or the end of a wood spoon to carefully lower the dough into the oil
WARNING: don't hurt yourself :(

let it fry for a bout 2 minutes on each side, or when it starts to turn golden brown. Use the skewer to gently flip the dough

After its cooked through, pat dry the doughnut with paper towel, and then either leave it plain, cover it with sugar, dip it in powdered sugar- so many possibilities

If you try two at a time the oil temp drops a ton- so they take much much longer to cook through

All done....

and so fun :)
