Lesson 101: Knowing Myself, Knowing God's Will and Deepening My Convictions

I'm reading a book given by my friend from IMG. It's "How to find your one true love" by Bo Sanchez. I was also able to have a one-on-one chat with one of my elder friend too. He made it a point that as a pastor, he will be able to guide me on my spiritual journey. And what I realized is, before I go into something I'm not sure, I need to get to know myself more and listen to what is God is telling me to do. So my elder friend asked, "What is God trying to tell you?"

I paused. I said, "I think God is telling me to deepen my convictions. Cause I'm a type of person who tends to please people that matters to me. I really have to know what do I really want".

He said, "Until one's convictions are rooted on God's will, it will not be true convictions, True in the sense that it is from God, it may be good convictions, it may bless others, yourself etc, do some good but until they are not really on God's will for your life, whatever they are, they will fall short on what God has intended for you".

I agreed. I'll try to remember that everytime. (That's why I blogged it too :D)

I also read from the book about knowing God's will for me and being deliberately responsible in taking those in action.

"Don't give God the responsibility He gave you."

In Filipino:

"Nasa Diyos ang awa. Nasa tao ang gawa".

Knowing this, made me realize a lot of things about myself.

The book also said "Enjoy the journey of discerning God's will.... Grow your character. Get emotionally healthy. Know yourself - for you to know what you want and don't want. "

From my journeys, I have a grasp of what do I really want:

  • I want a successful and happy career where I can grow as a person as well.
  • I want to have a happy marriage and a family that I can call my own with my children.
  • I want to be able to help a lot of people, not only financially but also in building their character and leading them to the right path.
  • I want to be educated, be reliable and to know a lot of things enough for me to be secured and proud of myself and to inspire my future children.
  • I want to build my dream house and have a business with my family someday.
  • I want to be a good teacher to children - spiritually and academically.
  • I want to be a singer that can inspire people someday.

Lastly,
  • I want to be free to be the best that I can be.

What I don't want to be:
  • To be too rigid and to miss the opportunity to enjoy the blessings of God.
  • To be trapped in something I hate doing.
  • To be always afraid of taking risk.
  • To do evil things, think evil things, give consent for it and compromise God's will for other's sake.
  • Not being able to be the best that I can be.
  • Being too strict and serious
  • Being negative always.

There's a lot I need to do to mold my character. I also need to discern God's will for me and deepen my convictions through it. But I think I'm on my way. :)

Quote from the book:

"When you know yourself more, you'll have a better chance of picking the right man for a happy marriage."
"Unless we heal the wounds of the past we will have difficult time looking for and accepting a man in our lives."
