Yet I can't quite agree with how certain aspects of Janeway and her relationship with Chakotay are written in Protectors. I wish I could describe it better than that both Kathryn and Chakotay both seem rather "cold"? After what the Admiral has been through it seems odd/off to me personally that she wouldn't be more invested in her relationship. After all these are meant to bring stability/support and peace and whatnot, so the comparatively unemotional parting and the terms in which each of them think back to the other throughout the novel just come off so ... nonchalant. And no matter from what angle I'm trying to look at it it doesn't make particularly much sense to me. Both Chakotay and Kathryn strike me as the kind of people who, when they decided to move their relationship forward would give no less then 100% to it and that's not what I'm reading here. So, yeah, we'll see how this continues but for now I'm rather perplexed.
It's actually the only thing that really bothered me, so that's good. :)
And a thousand thanks for the story! It's totally sweet and well in character. Love it!
