BOOKS IN PROGRESS: Justinian by "H.N. Turtletaub"; Rod Serling: The Dreams And Nightmares Of Life In The Twilight Zone, by Joel Engel. I was also trying to read All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren, but couldn't get into it--seeing as how this is a play I should be able to try finding a video of it without feeling guilty.
HOUSE: I've hit a critical mass where I'm tired of dealing with settling in for the moment, at least when the stuff comes at the expense of writing. So I've still got piles of books on the floor in the basement and three shelves that need clearing, moving, and then the books being placed on them in order. Still have something like a thousand boxes in the rest of the basement I need to go through as well.
MEANIES: The Meanie Award this week goes to
whiskeyrivers and
mauzybroadway, who metaphorically waved at us (as they passed the interstate that goes through Roanoke) on their way to DragonCon without stopping to pick me up! :)
POLITICS: In the "We Don't Negotiate With Terrorists Except When We Do" Department,
our hero learns that if you're going to be a kidnapped reporter under a Neoconservative administration then you'd better hope you work for Fox News. (Thanks to
yndy for the heads up.)
Also,
erzebet is running for president. If she's elected she'll appoint me the new director of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History! (It was a hard toss-up between that and the Director of the Library of Congress. But the Natural History Museum was always a haven for me in D.C., so as I told Erzebet already, I guess I'd just have to add a LOT more books to my personal library!)
STAR TREK: The original series is
about to get the George Lucas re-treatment. I'll reserve any opinions about this until I see it for myself, but in the meantime my videotapes aren't going anywhere.
WRITING: Monday I did some revisions and additions on last weekend's short story (my only completed one of the summer, as it now happens). And since I can't seem to write concisely, I added another 500 words to the total. This will probably go up again this weekend, as the fixes I thought up for a couple of the problems will no doubt add wordage without taking much away.
No more writing after Monday, though I did stare at an old (written in December before the Camelot book took over) almost-finished story until drops of blood formed on my forehead and I finally came up with an ending for it. Not sure if the ending is strong or original enough yet (original being the big worry), but I'll write it out and see how it looks, then figue out what to do from there.
And lastly, I wrote the new six-line introduction for my SF poem "Cydonia River" at editorial request. Hope to hear about it soon from said editor.
Sunday I go back to my evening work schedule, which means my regular 10-out-of-12-month writing almost-daily schedule resumes as well. Woot!
