The Farmerian Response, plus Two For Three Ain't Bad

Jun 23, 2005 22:10

I called the land of Kickapoo this evening to relay the news that I'd finished Draft One of The City Beyond Play. Talking for Phil Farmer can be so difficult at times that his speech slows almost to slurring, but this was the most excited I'd heard him in the year since Mom and I last visited there. He can only talk for a few minutes at a time and ( Read more... )

Tearing down buildings for parking is such an ubiquitous tradition I figured it went without saying.

I certainly couldn't have enough Popeye's. The sheer act of moving 100 miles away from the closest one meant I dropped nearly 20 pounds.

Congrats on the draft! Sounds like things are gonna go well with it. I hope they do :) I miss Popeye's, but we've got Church's here and they're OK.

Ooooh...it's been sooooo long since I've seen a Church's! Do they still serve fried okra?

I'm pretty sure they do - I generally have minions I send to do my bidding. *snicker* (Don't I wish.. Usually someone else goes in, but I know it's still a side at some other places so I'm pretty certain they'd keep it.)

I've never been to Church's, but we do have Bojangles. Not bad, but Popeye's had a literally addictive quality for me. There was something in their chicken, or maybe the spices, that kept me coming back until I weighed in at nearly 250, and wanted me to keep consuming even when I was full. Very bizzare. I always used to joke that their spices included poppy seeds.

I'm just now reading this and realizing you mean that you called Phillip Jose Farmer...
Wow.
Must be nice to have a heavy hitter like that in your corner... can't wait to buy and read your TCBP and it's sequels when they come out in print! :)

If I had an ounce of common sense (I don't it's already past midnight, ergo my common sense is asleep as you would expect it to be... it's the foolish, impulsive me that is still awake and typing!) I would delete this comment before the rest of the world (or at least, your audience herein) bears witness to my cluelessness.

Having made the stupid comment - I went to your user info - which I must've skimmed while asleep, apparently, when adding you. I then went here via the handy link you provided, and discovered that you are also related to the awesomely talented PJF.

Now, I must go bang my head against a wall several times to remind the still awake and restless section of my brain to do my research *before* commenting.

Sigh.

Still... I do look forward to reading it! :P And I'm just foolish enough to leave the comment and take any lumps that go with it.

BTW: did I mention that I befriended you solely upon your wit and insight that I'd seen on LJ? go figure...

Maybe one of these days I'll get around to posting (the rest of) the novella in my "criterary" journal--I've already posted the first two chapters, I just need to find them. :o

I haven't listened much, but from what I've heard on the radio, they're still much too busy talking about the proposed anti-flag burning amendment to talk about the supreme court.

As to the resolution to pull American troops out of Iran, they're pretty soundly denouncing it. Boiled down to a sentance, their reaction is: "So now the people we're fighting know that all they have to do is hide and wait until the day they know the Americans will leave, then they do whatever they like." Millitary strategy is hardly my forte, but somehow it does seem like a poor idea to let your opponents know what day you're going to quit playing and go home.... *shrug*

Ostensibly--and this is where the "other stuff" part of the bill comes in--we're supposed to turn all that over to the natives by New Year's Eve of next year. Considering that I believe Hussein was only the shadow reason for our invasion, and with firsthand knowledge that we were at least planning the invasion by the summer of 2002--and knowing that even Dick Cheney was forced to admit they were perusing Iraqi maps at his secret energy meetings right after Bush's inauguration--I think we'll be in Iraq for years regardless of what Congress does.

The media reports that the Iraqi soldiers haven't done very well in combatting the terrorists. Maybe that's true and maybe it isn't, I don't know. The folks I know / have known in Iraq have never said one way or the other--they've complained about the standard things, ie lack of armor, having to scrounge for truck parts, etc.
