At 8:52 pm last night (Writing Computer time, which is about an eager five minutes ahead of the Real World Eastern Standard), I finished the first draft of The City Beyond Play.
Nearly three years of anticipation and wondering if I could pull it off...2 1/2 weeks to write.
The next few days I take off--at least from writing. I've got other stuff to catch up on which I will quit ignoring now. Once done (by the middle of next week), I'll jump back into The Backward River, a smattering of poetry, and hopefully a short story or two.
Now before I swerve off into a political entry, I'll skip ahead to a
PROGRESS REPORT FOR 6/22/05
New Words: 2550, chapter 11 of TCBP.
Total Words: The quick and dirty rough count came to a little over 31000. I'll try to refine it by tonight.
Reason For Stopping: Enough is enough!
Mammalian Assistance: The White Cat got my adrenaline pumping when she leaped for the window, didn't quite make it, and nearly pulled down a row of oversized books clawing her way back up.
Exercise: Just a little stretching and the extra walk to the library for printing the day's work.
Stimulants: The thought of completing the story, accented by a cherry snowcone.
Things I Ignored So I Could Write: Sweeping, as it happened. This I will do tonight.
Darling Du Jour: Oddly enough, nothing really jumps out at me, though nearly the entire chapter is atmospheric: A Haunted Castle, and then a witch's cottage. Although I do like Nor were any clouds (in sight); the sun had reconquered its domain and lit a broad road toward the Castle Dolorous.
Favorite Overblown Pseudo-Medieval Dialogue: "I see thy days ahead as clearly as thou smell my foul breath, stranger."
Books In Progress: The Ships of Air and Time's Eye. I finally realized last night that the reason Time's Eye nagged at me with familiarity was that it reminds me of Riverworld. While it's a much different premise, you still have people from across the spectrum of human history interacting with one another.
