So then, 3 days, 2 recipes and several hundred miles of travel later here are the next two recipe reviews from Nigella Lawson's Express cookbook.
Smoked Cod and Cannellini
This was a pleasure to cook and looked awesome, smoked cod poached in a wine and herb stock mixed with warmed through beans. However the texture of the Cannellini beans was too rough and unpleasant to make this the tasty dish it should have been. The warmed through beans just didn't go with the fish and very tasty stock. It might work if the beans were puréed or severely mashed beforehand. I might try this again using good old potato mash instead as the taste was good it just didn't go with the beans.
Steak Slice with Lemon & Tyme
I had exactly the right ingredients and cooked everything for the right amount of time but sadly this recipe ruined two lovely pieces of rump steak. I liked the premise, pan fry the main ingredient (in this case steak) before putting into some marinade (similar to many of the Wagamama recipes). However the marinade had too much olive oil to lemon juice/thyme and the cooking times for the steaks were well off. If I were to try this again (which is very unlikely) I would cook the steaks the way I normally do and use less oil and more herbs.
