This novel has been written by Chris Carter, the famous criminology writer in United states, Italian origin. As his usual novels, it is also started with a brutal homicide of a DA (District Attorney at law). Then this case is handed over to Robert Hunter and his partner Garcia the detectives. While they investigating this gruesome assassination, two of other people who are in noble state in society are killed in the same pattern of the former grotesque murder. So, they come to a decision all these murders are committed by the same person who makes shadow puppets with sculpture of chopped body pieces of the victims. Then finally the story ends with how they find the killer and why the killer has done all these murders in such a brutal way.
As his usual novels, this is also very interesting and thrilling. It made me to read word by word with curious. But some homicide incidents have been described brutally and in conspicuous way. When we read the novel, we feel gruesome at some point. Though this novel contains some grotesque murders, the way he wrote the story is very perfect and triggers us to maintain ceaseless reading. When he describes the every murder, he proves his self as the real criminologist. He elaborates the incidents with medical terms and jargons and also, but he has explained every terminologies. This kind of narration is a very big strength to develop his story. The way he described the relationship between Hunter and Garcia is so beautiful. The depth of their friendship and their partnership were simply awesome.
But, from my point of view, he could have described more about the relationship between Hunter and Alice. I think, he superficially handled the relationship discussion between Alice and Hunter. But I was amazed while reading both Alice’s and Hunter’s characterizations and the way they dealt the murders. The suspense he maintained throughout the story was made me flabbergasted when I came to the end. These are prominent and unique methods of Carter to make his readers overwhelmed.
Though some chapters have some unclear points, but this novel never failed to entertain me while reading. This is one of the best novels, I have read as today. I will give 4 out of 5 to this novel.
