Did anyone know that one of the Iranian hostages was from my hometown?
William Belk
68, Hiawassee, Ga.
Then: Embassy communications officer.
Now: Retired.
He says the United States has bred contempt in the Muslim world by flaunting its power, wealth and lifestyle.
"That's why I have no animosity toward the fundamentalists. We've misjudged so many things in so many different countries. One of the failures of being American is we don't know enough about other people. We might not have these problems if we didn't back dictatorial regimes."
If anyone knows this man, I'd love to interview him.
